A user tries to test Xiaomi Mi 5

A very common practice that is becoming more and more diffused is the physical stress that a smartphone can withstand, meaning with this term various methods not to advise anyone who especially holds their own device. Recently the well-known youtuber JerryRigEverything, which has often been involved in such practices with smartphones of various brands, has put the new Xiaomi home flagship (in particular, the base version with rear glass) under pressure, subjected to various tests to test the true resistance of this smartphone.

In the first test, scratch resistance was tested (scratch test) of the front and rear glass as well as the side frame and lens of the main camera. For the front glass, the tips of various materials have been used to measure the size of the Mohs hardness scale and, since the front glass is a Gorilla Glass 4, was assured of the maximum level of tolerance. In fact, as expected, the glass began scratching the sixth level, just like any other smartphone with the same glass. It is unnecessary to repeat the test for the rear glass, as it is made from the same material as the front. The scratch test at the side frame has highlighted the lack of paints or primers and therefore it was very easy to scratch the metal. The situation greatly improves in the scratch test carried out at the rear camera lens, which has not been minimally affected by the cutter blade.

Subsequently, it was also submitted to "burn test“, That is by putting the smartphone display in contact with the flame of a lighter for the duration of five seconds and, after an initial blackening of the pixels, they are back to work within a few seconds.

Finally, the most destructive test that the smartphone had to undergo, namely the "bend test". The author highlighted how it was extremely easy to break the Xiaomi Mi 5, highlighting the part where the detachment between the battery and the smartphone motherboard occurs as a critical point. This reason must be sought in the presence of a single aluminum frame unlike other manufacturers who use two precisely to avoid this problem.

Personally, I don't appreciate this kind of testing and would never subject a smartphone to such "destructive" practices. However, these videos conceal a very significant hidden message that makes us understand the real limits to which a smartphone can be subjected. With this I leave you to the video in question and I remind you that this practice is highly discouraged, especially for its excessive costs (as the youtuber himself states).
