Urtopia Carbon Electric Bike

Going into detail, unlike other e-bikes on the market that are only partially made of carbon fiber, the Urtopia e-bike has a frame, front forks, seat post and handlebars all made of carbon fiber. This extensive use of carbon fiber brings the overall weight down to just 14kg, while most comparable e-bikes weigh at least 20kg.

As for the smart side, the Urtopia Carbon Electric Bike has a "Smartbar" which includes:

  • Dot Matrix LED Screen offers a retro-style display that provides real-time cycling metrics in an easy-to-read, clear and bright enough way even in direct sunlight;
  • AI voice control which is based on two noise-canceling microphones and a 3W speaker and an integrated AI algorithm, which also offers customizable voice commands and beeps of the horn;
  • A fingerprint sensor that unlocks the bike quickly and easily;
  • GPS and eSIM offering constant connectivity (if desired) and tracking for advanced interactive and anti-theft features;
  • Accelerometer and gyroscope providing tampering and motion detection alerts;
  • Haptic interaction with two vibrators on each side of the handlebar offering another level of communication with the bike;
  • Over the Air (OTA) updates that ensure the bike stays up to date with the latest features and improvements.

ARES (Advanced Rear Early Indication System)

The bike also has a safety system called ARES (Advanced Rear Early-indication System) which includes:

  • A bright red position light;
  • A millimeter wave radar that warns the motorcyclist of vehicles arriving from behind when making turns on the road;
  • A pair of projection lights indicate turn directions to alert nearby vehicles.

From a design standpoint, the frame was designed by Mathis Heller, an award-winning and world-renowned product designer; whose works include the BMW i Series and the Siemens ICE 3 high-speed train. Inspired by the Möbius belt, the design embodies Urtopia's dedication to endless connectivity and sustainability.

As for performance, the Urtopia Carbon Electric Bike comes with a custom engine and clutch. In particular, thanks to a proprietary control system with real-time input from a magneto-elastic torque sensor, the 250 W rear hub motor and built-in clutch offer five speed modes; including a turbo mode similar to that of the twist throttle (pedal activation required) and a near-zero mode with zero resistance. The overall driving experience is super smooth and highly rewarding for a range of 50-130km.

The bike also adopts the Gates Carbon Drive Belt system. That is, unlike ordinary chains that require regular maintenance, the carbon belt provides equally efficient power transmission while being virtually maintenance-free for a life of up to 30.000km.

Finally, we find a 36V 4A removable Samsung lithium-ion battery. While fast charging only takes 2,5 hours to get the premium battery fully powered at its 360 Wh capacity; both on and off the electric bike itself.

We would like to let you know that the Urtopia brand will be present at Cyclingworld (Düsseldorf, Germany) where it will be possible to try the Carbon Electric Bike from 18 to 20 March 2022; and at the Copenhagen Bike Show (Copenhagen, Denmark) from 12 to 13 March 2022.
