WhatsApp Chat Lock: here is the new function to protect conversations

WhatsApp developers recently introduced a new feature in their messaging client to prevent unauthorized users from accessing chats containing confidential information. Is called WhatsApp Chat Lock: let's see in detail what it is and how it works.

What is WhatsApp Chat Lock and how does it work

It is known that access to WhatsApp can only be requested by the owner of the phone by activating the Fingerprint lock mode in the app settings, selecting the Privacy item and scrolling to the bottom option.

The new feature, called “WhatsApp Chat Lock”, allows you to block access to individual conversations requiring a password or biometric authentication. To use this novelty, just select thepadlock icon after choosing the chat to protect.

whatsapp chat lock how it works

It often happens that you share your smartphone with trusted users such as family members, or show someone your screen while a WhatsApp message arrives that you don't want to be read. The Chat Lock function was designed for precisely these situations, in order to ensure user privacyand to prevent strictly personal communications from being read by unauthorized persons.

The blocked chats on WhatsApp automatically disappear from the main screen of the app and the related notifications are no longer displayed. The owner of the smartphone can access the blocked chats by tapping the “Blocked chats” option and passing an additional check (by dragging down the screen with the list of all WhatsApp conversations).

WhatsApp Chat Lock will soon be a reality

WhatsApp developers have also stated that they intend to further expand the Chat Lock functionality, providing additional locking mechanisms for devices connected to the same account and offering the ability to set custom passwords, regardless of the unlocking system used at the operating system level .

It is not known when yet when this feature will be integrated, but it could be a matter of days or at most a few weeks. We'll see.
