Everything we know about Whitechapel, the Pixel 6 processor

Just a week ago we had confirmation that Whitechapel will truly be the Google Pixel 6 processor, or the next "top of the range" of the Mountain View company. Top of the range in quotes as normally, the brand does not use ultra-performing processors but prefers medium range. This time, however, the SoC will be proprietary and its code name will be GS101. Through the news of the team of 9to5Google let's see everything we know about this processor.

Who is Whitechapel made for Google Pixel 6? How effective will it be? What modem and GPU will it have? We try to understand everything

Let's start by saying that Whitechapel it was "adopted" by Samsung. Better to say, the Google team has relied on the SLSI (System Large Scale Integration) division for the construction of this new processor. This division of the Korean company is also the one responsible for the production of the processors Exynos, known to most as bitter enemies of Snapdragon. This suggests that there will be some similarity between Google's proprietary SoC and the other. But it is not even said.

As for the architecture, i data collected in our possession speak of a construction that provides three clusters with two Cortex-A78 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores e four Cortex-A55 cores. Although it is rumored a similarity with the Exynos, there is no Samsung processor with these characteristics. The goal of this SoC, like the others, is to meet a 'greater autonomy.

In graphic terms, therefore the GPU, the Whitechapel chip will use one based on the architecture "Valhalla"By Arm. So far, only a few GPUs have been announced with this design, including Mali-G77 e Mali-G78 high-end as well as the new Mali-G68 mid-range. A big step forward if that were the case as all the chips of the moment, at least in the US, are equipped with GPUs Adreno. The reason is simple: better performance. However, the Mali counterpart has been doing an excellent job lately.

As for theAI and security, nothing is clear and all quite hazy. Mishaal Rahman of XDA, in corroborating the Whitechapel report by 9t05Google, confirmed that the SoC would be equipped with a new security chip called "Dauntless". From what has been possible to glean from the Chromium source code, Dauntless is a chip that can work on Android and Chrome OS devices and is the successor to an earlier chip called "Haven", often referred to as the "Google Security Chip".

Il modem, or that component that allows the connectivity of a device associated with it, it will be the same as the Exynos processors. This figure was confirmed by a Google Camera modder who goes by the name of cstark27. The modem is called Shannon but there is no concrete data to understand its performance.
