Wi-Fi Italy: here is the unlimited internet plan for the Bel Paese

While the technology Wi-Fi develops reaching the seventh generation, in Italy there is still discussion on how to expand the unlimited internet service throughout the territory. In recent days, precisely on 23 December, the Ministry of Economic Development has launched a tender open until next February. In this announcement there are the guidelines for unlimited and free internet for citizens and tourists. The line will be accessible thanks to the quasi 8000 hotspot points scattered throughout the territory.

The Ministry of Economic Development has launched a call for tenders for Wi-Fi Italy: a project to bring free and unlimited internet to our country

The tender notice that has been published also in the European Journal, provides for an allocation of approx 10 million euro. Clearly the winner will be the one who promises a cheaper but also more functional deal (in the sense that it works well, too). The contract will have a duration of three years and the deadline of the call is at11 February of the 2022.

But what does this band foresee? What are the minimum requirements of the Wi-Fi Italia project? First of all the connection must be unrestricted. This implies that there must not be a minimum traffic threshold to use, nor a maximum. In addition to this, it is indicated that the maximum download speed must be at least 30 Mbps, while the minimum of at least 15 Mbps. As for the minimum band instead, we talk about 3 Mbps.

The good news is that the tender winner will also have to deliver on their promise technical assistance. This means that the service, in principle, will be guaranteed and "maintained". Certainly a very valid project but which, in our opinion, should have a guarantor for the quality of the service given. It is clear that penalties are set up if there are problems in the infrastructures and services.
