WiFi 6E: certification programs for next gen devices begin

The technology for the wireless connection it's improving a lot. In the near future, more and more devices (mobile or not) will be compatible with the highest standard ever achieved to date, that is Wi-Fi 6E. But when will the time come when this standard will be available to everyone? It actually has already arrived as the body responsible for overseeing the Wi-Fi has certification programs for new generation devices started. But what will these devices be of grace? Let's go see them together.

WiFi 6E is the biggest update in the history of wireless technology in 20 years: thus the Wi-Fi Alliance introduces the new standard

During the CES 2021 it is to be expected that companies producing smartphones, laptops and so on will present the first devices compatible with this new technology. To be honest actually smartphones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor they should already be able to use it. In fact, the US company has made it known that the SoC is fully compatible with the WiFi 6E standard and therefore for the devices the road is paved.

WiFi 6E will see rapid adoption in 2021 with over 338 million devices entering the market and nearly 20% of all device shipments supporting 6 GHz by 2022

Phil Solis, director of research at IDC

In April 2020, the Federal Communications Commission opened a new broad spectrum in the United States, but a updated hardware to use it. Almost a year later, we are finally starting to see devices with these capabilities. But how does this new standard work?

The devices on the market today are hooked to the spectrum bands, 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz. The new standard instead can count on the 6 GHz band, which quadruples the total amount of radio waves used to date.

When will it go into action on devices?

However, not all that glitters is gold. If the certifications have begun (or rather have been announced) today, it takes time before users can start using the next generation connectivity standard. By the beginning of 2022, as we read in the quote below the video, the IDC provides that only 20% of Wi-Fi 6 product shipment will also support 6E.
