Steam Deck: Valve releases drivers for Windows 10, now it's installable

Valve did a phenomenal job developing Steam deck, the handheld console that challenges Nintendo Switch. Power, compactness and compatibility are the cornerstones on which the device is based. And we are talking about compatibility obvious, since Valve released the drivers in order to install Windows 10 on Steam Deck. A feature that will sound strange to most, but that developers and geeks will love it very much. Let's go see the details.

Want Windows 10 on Valve's Steam Deck? Now it is possible to have it even if it is still unusable. Windows 11 is also coming!

Valve released Windows 10 drivers for its Steam Deck handheld console today. These drivers will provide the hardware compatibility required for those wishing to use the Microsoft operating system. Drivers released today are for GPU, Wi-Fie Bluetooth. Valve said the audio drivers are still being worked on by AMD, then not all of them are available yet. Therefore, the Steam Deck will not support audio through the speakers or the headphone jack, and users will need to use Bluetooth or USB audio devices.

Drivers are provided for Windows 10 only drivers for Windows 11 are under development and will be available later with a BIOS update that will enable fTPM support, which is required for the operating system. It must be said that Steam Deck does not currently support dual booting: this function, according to when communicated, will come later.

Recall that Steam Deck is in effect a X86 laptop and thus supports the installation of any desktop operating system, although native driver support is still required for full functionality. The device is supplied preloaded with Valve's SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system that uses the Proton emulator to run Windows games on the Steam Store.

But why install Windows 10? Although SteamOS has decent gaming support at launch, it still doesn't support all games in the Steam store, nor does it support installing games from other sources such as Epic Games Store or Microsoft Store. The only way, therefore, is to install the operating system for the time being.
