According to the latest from China, the technology giant Xiaomi he would already be working on the next one Xiaomi 15. Following the success of its predecessors, the models Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, which debuted in October 2023 as the first devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the Xiaomi 15 series is set to make its entry around the same time this year.

A recent leak, courtesy of the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS), shined a spotlight on a defining feature of the series: the introduction of a ultrasonic fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen. This technology marks a turning point compared to the optical technology used in Xiaomi 14 series, promising an improved user experience and unprecedented security.
The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor works by emitting ultrasonic waves from the screen when a finger is pressed on it. These waves interact with the fingerprint's unique crest and valley patterns. By analyzing the return time of these echoes and their intensity, the scanner builds a precise 3D image of the fingerprint, enabling accurate and secure authentication.
Ultrasonic technology offers numerous advantages over optical recognition, including better penetration, water and stain resistance, greater accuracy, support for live finger detection, and enhanced security. Furthermore, the ability to function effectively under various types of screens and environmental conditions makes this technology particularly attractive for high-end devices.
According to DCS, the Xiaomi 15 series, which could include the Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra models, is currently being tested with Goodix ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology. However, it is still early to definitively confirm the inclusion of this technology in the new devices. The New Product Introduction (NPI) phase for Series 15 is expected to begin in April, at which point more concrete details will emerge.
