Recently, a piece of news has emerged that has caused a lot of interest in the tech world: Xiaomi, one of the leading smartphone manufacturers, has decided to label Telegram as a potentially dangerous application in China. As a result, the Telegram installation was blocked on all devices using the MIUI interface in the country.
Following reports from some users, we would like to underline that we personally translated the screenshot below before publishing the article. This is not an antivirus alert as some claim. The translation reads: "According to the relevant regulations and regulatory requirements, the installation of this application is prohibited!"
Xiaomi blocks Telegram in China: what are the (political) reasons behind the decision?
The decision has raised many questions, especially since Xiaomi has not provided a clear explanation on the nature of the alleged danger posed by Telegram. However, some Western sources believe this move may have been influenced by willingness to support the policies of the Chinese government, especially those aimed at limiting the use of applications that may promote freedom of expression and information.

With the introduction of MIUI 13 last year Xiaomi implemented a new security feature. This feature was designed to identify and, if necessary, block applications that are considered malicious or potentially harmful to the user. Although the stated goal was protect users from possible threats, the function has received several criticisms, especially for blocking some applications without a clear reason.
Now, when a Xiaomi device with MIUI detects Telegram installation, a warning message appears. This message informs the user that the application has not passed Xiaomi's security check and may pose various risks, including fraudulent charges or excessive resource consumption.
Interestingly, while Xiaomi has made this decision, in other parts of the world, as in Iraq, restrictions on Telegram have recently been lifted. Also, Telegram celebrated its XNUMXth anniversary, and the founder Paul durov announced new features coming soon for all users.
It's actually the antivirus that's blocking the update. A translation of what is shown in the screenshot was enough and in any case I would have had a minimum of suspicion from "9.7.5 -> 9.7.6". You can do it.
Hi Christian. I've been studying Chinese for 8 years so I know what I'm talking about. Among other things, the translation can be found under the introductory paragraph, in italics. Thanks for the encouragement: we always make it 😀
Studying Chinese for 8 years does not mean inventing news or interpreting screenshots to your liking. From scholar to Barbara D'Urso, the step is short.
Just because an update is blocked, you can't say that Xiaomi blocks Telegram because the government wants to limit free speech.
You are right, I interpreted the screenshot to my liking and made up news. However, you can find Chinese sources and inform yourself there: it will certainly be easier to find unfiltered news from China. I'll leave you some links, who knows, maybe they say something different:
Best wishes Cristian, keep following us!
