In these days of panic due to the Coronavirus, we have often told of the crisis that has also affected the technology sector, pulling a handbrake in general sales in international markets. A real disaster in the mobile phone sector that also affected our beloved Xiaomi, as well as a series of delays due to the forced closure of factories and the stop of workers confined to their homes.
Fortunately, IDC today encourages us with good news from the front, albeit from India, where sales of the wearable market for the fourth quarter of 2019 were analyzed. The data shows us a total of 14,9 million wearable devices shipped, for a growth of 168,3% on an annual basis.
Xiaomi India: number 1 in the sale of wearables in India
According to the IDC report, wearables such as smart bands and smartwatches without support for third party apps have dominated the market, reaching a share of 96,2% and an annual growth of 177%. In the last quarter alone, 5,3 million wearables were shipped with an increase of 52,6% compared to the previous year. But the news that interests us is the fact of finding Xiaomi in the first position of the ranking, among the brands analyzed, with a market share of 48,9% and an annual growth of 54,7%.
An oddity of the ranking is represented by Fossil who leads the ranking in the smartwatch sector, even surpassing Apple, while Huami with his wearables AmazFit represents the second largest brand in the general watch category. IDC also leaves room for reflection for the earphones, a product category that in 2019 saw a growth of 443,6%. All this, therefore, suggests that by 2020 we will witness many surprises from technology producers. It will therefore not be a coincidence that Realme ed OPPO for the day 5 and 6 March they have the release of their first wearable.
