In early 2019, Xiaomi set up a technical committee and invested nearly 7 billion yuan (about 1 billion euros) in research and development during the past year. The company also appointed 14 general managers and deputy general managers in positions of great importance. Lei Jun even pointed out in an internal conference that in order to continue strengthening Xiaomi, the brand must focus entirely on innovation.

First foldable smartphone
On January 23, 2019, Xiaomi's president, Lin Bin, announced the existence of dual foldable. A smartphone that turns into a tablet if necessary, so as to be compact when you go around and at the same time have a large display for watching videos or whatever.
This was the first Xiaomi folding device, and it is also the first of the dual-fold type (it folds twice). The smartphone would have been independently developed by Xiaomi to obtain a zero-degree inclination and a "four-axis folding hinge system".
First 20W wireless flash charge
On February 20, 2019 the Xiaomi Mi 9 was launched and the entire series was equipped with a 20W wireless flash charging, which promoted the development of wireless charging for smartphones like never before. The new wireless charging hardware architecture adopted by Xiaomi 9 uses a "half voltage" direct charging solution, which significantly improves efficiency, with a maximum final power of 20W.
MIX3 5G: the first 5G phone from Xiaomi
On February 24, 2019, at the Xiaomi conference at MWC2019, the first 5G device, the Xiaomi MIX3 5G was officially released. Making Xiaomi one of the first commercial manufacturers of 5G smartphones in the world.
The Xiaomi MIX 3 5G version used Qualcomm's new generation of chipsets, i.e. the Snapdragon 855 was equipped with an X50 5G modem, for a download speed that can reach up to 2Gbps.
The first 100W wired fast charge
On March 25, 2019, Xiaomi's president, Lin Bin, showed a charging test with a maximum output power of 100W. A smartphone with 4000mAh battery was charged 40% in 5 minutes, taking only 17 minutes to fully charge.
The 100W charging power and charging speed far exceeded the highest 50W charging specification on the market at the time.
First on-screen camera technology
On June 3 of 2019, Xiaomi announced the technology of "in-screen" cameras, that is camera hidden inside the screen.
The hidden camera greatly improves the design of the device, removing holes or teardrop notches, so we have a truly full screen view. When you want to take a selfie instead, the screen above the front camera can be turned into a “transparent” state, so that the light can enter completely without affecting the front camera at all. The first Xiaomi MIX Alpha surround screen
On September 24, 2019 the Xiaomi MIX Alpha was released, the first smartphone with a surround screen. The surround screen causes the Xiaomi MIX Alpha screen ratio to reach 180,6%.
The Xiaomi MIX Alpha also adopts a new display lamination method and a complete assembly method that uses flexible technology to have a fingerprint sensor on the curved screen

First 30W wireless flash charge
On September 24 Xiaomi released the Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G, which supports 30 W super wireless flash charging. At the time it had such a fast wireless charging technology that it surpassed the wired technology of many smartphones on the market.
The wireless charging solution developed in-house by Xiaomi, has brought innovations in the hardware sector: a 4: 1 high efficiency direct charging architecture, two-stage voltage reduction, reducing the loss of energy converted during charging.
The first 100 megapixel camera in production
Finally, on November 5 of 2019 the first Xiaomi CC9 Pro (known by us as My Notes 10) with a 108MP camera. This is the highest resolution smartphone currently in production.
It also adopts a quality 7P lens and double optical stabilization of the OIS image. Xiaomi CC9 Pro Exclusive Edition then received a very high score on DxOMark of 121 (the highest at the time).
