Xiaomi bets on Pateo, a well-known Chinese car manufacturer: what are the plans?

We talked about it about two years ago, but after that news we never heard of it anymore: let's talk of Xiaomi's entry into the car market. At that juncture it was a close cooperation with the automotive giant FAW Car Co, partnerships where the phone brand would have implemented its technologies on board the machines produced by the other company. As said, nothing has been known about this matter but today we have news of a new investment by the brand i Lei Jun. This indeed invested capital on Patheus, a large car manufacturer. But what will he do?

Xiaomi has decided to invest (again) in a car manufacturer: together with Pateo it will integrate its technology into cars, but also something more

According to Chinese media reports yesterday, Patheus would have received a large amount of funding from Xiaomi. More than funding it is a investment within the company (round B, in which there is the concrete realization of the business model) by the Chinese giant who has always dealt with smartphones and mobile technology in general.

The investment amount and the specific share index were not disclosed. In the future however we know that Pateo will collaborate with Xiaomi in all aspects of multi-scenario interaction inside the cars produced, for example with the complete integration of the voice assistant.

Xiaomi in his launched a forked strategy "+ smartphone AIOT"Starting from 2019. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary in 2020, the brand immediately added that this strategy will be permanently integrated with the 5G connection. To give an example: in Korea, in large metropolises, this type of technology is already used in subways and taxis. China is certainly not idle and it will surely reach this standard very soon. Going back to the investment though, it was formulated a strategy of the type "1 + 1 + N" where 1 +1 stands for car + smartphone. N refers to various input and output devices, including smart devices such as headphones, watches, smartbands, TVs and various IoT devices. This coincides with the development strategy of Xiaomi's Internet of Things.

But who is Pateo? It is a Shenzhen-based company that mainly deals with research, development and production of support services for smart vehicle information systems. Reading it seems very tangled but in reality the matter is simple: imagine talking to your car at any time, a bit like Michael Knight did with KITT. In concrete terms, it is committed to building and integrate three parts: car, internet and mobile devices. He is also an important collaborator of brands such as Bentley, Jaguar and Land Rover.
