Finally, after much anticipation, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has just been presented to the Mobile Wold Congress by the vice president of Chinese company Hugo Barra. Without losing too much, we immediately go to his presentation.
As mentioned to date, the processor that will move this device is the Snapdragon 820 (Qualcomm Kryo quad-core to 64 bit) with Adreno 530 GPU (40% faster than the Adreno 430 of the Snapdragon 810) and which thanks to its X12 LTE modem manages to reach download speeds of 600 Mbps.
In addition, it can take full advantage of VoLTE technology that allows you to make quality call quality higher (HD) | New screenshot from Xiaomi Mi 5 |.
Along with the processor, an LPDDR4 RAM memory (100% faster than LPDDR3) is associated with 3 / 4 GB and a UFS 2.0 (Universal Flash Storage) internal memory from 32/64/128 GB not expandable, which guarantees 87% read / write speed faster than the eMMC v5.1, and that overall can achieve a good 142.084 score on Antutu Benchmark.
The display is a 5,15 ″ inch Full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) unit with very small edges and with a backlight composed of 16 LEDs, which guarantee a reduced consumption of 17% and a brightness of 600 nit , 5,2 "displays have 12-14 LEDs and produce 350 to 500 nits of brightness). Furthermore, thanks to this feature, the display has two very important features at its disposal: the Reading Mode and the Sunlight Display. While the first is known to all, the second is an absolute novelty, as it allows a rapid adaptation in real time of the contrasts of each single pixel to the ambient light.
The rear camera, in line with the back cover, is composed of a Sony sensor, the IMX298, from 16 MP with aperture f / 2.0, automatic phase detection (PDAF), pixel-by-pixel isolation (DTI) and takes advantage of the Qualcomm Spectra dedicated image processor. Furthermore, it consists of 6 lenses and a 4-axis optical image stabilizer (OIS), all protected by a sapphire crystal. Finally, the front camera is 4 MP, or rather, UltraPixel as the pixels used have a size of 2 micrometers, with Beautify function to increase image quality.
The smartphone body is made up of a lateral metal frame and rear glass, called 3D Glass, or a ceramic variant (3D Ceramic). The style of the Xiaomi Notes is resumed, but modified to make the edges completely curved, giving it an optimal ergonomics. Not only that, the ceramic version is one of the most durable ones currently in the market, ranking among the toughest materials on the Mohs scale (it has a 8H value, compared to the toughest that is diamond 10H).
The fact of having these materials, associated with a 3000 mAh battery and with dimensions of 69,2 x 144,55 x 7,25 mm, does not translate into a greater weight, on the contrary, with its only 129 grams it arises in a much higher position than other competing devices.
All the support to the full functionality of the NFC, an infrared port, the fingerprint sensor on the front (under the physical key), the support to the 3.0 Quick Charger (the 80-90% charging in a now), USB Type-C and MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
It will be available in white, black and gold, and in three variants (essentially two):
- We 5 Pro with 4 GB RAM, 128 GB Internal Memory and Ceramic Back Cover
- I 5 64 GB, with 3 GB RAM, 64 GB internal memory and glass back cover
- I 5 32 GB, with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory and glass back but processor set to 1,8 GHz (compared to the 2,15 GHz of the other two verisons)
The prices are really very aggressive, considering the competition and the specifications.
For the "basic" version with 32 GB we are talking about 1999 RMB, or 270 €, the "base plus" version with 64 GB will cost 2299 RMB, or 320 € and, finally, the Pro version will cost 2699 RMB, or € 375. The willingness to buy has been set for March 1st in China, while for the “external” market, according to Hugo Barra, it will be very very soon.
What do you think? Does it reflect your expectations? Or are they better / worse? Let us know with a comment.
