Xiaomi Mi 7 will have Notch display and IR camera. Here are the confirmation of XDA

After focusing on the future Mi Mix 2S, let's talk about the other top of the range expected by the Xiaomi company, the 7 Mi as interesting news await us on the horizon. Until now we have only the certainty that the future Mi 7 will adopt the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU, also confirmed by Lei Jun, even if it will not be the first device of the company to be equipped with this CPU as the 27 March will be precisely the presentation of the Mi Mix 2S.

According to some sources, Xiaomi delayed the presentation of the Mi 7 because it was intent on perfecting the design in order to add new sensors. To date we can not confirm the insertion of a sensor for fingerprints under the display but apparently there is evidence that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will have the now required notch on the display with its IR sensor. The confirmations are made by the XDA-Developers community that had previously obtained i device firmware files thanks to the kind permission of the user @FunkyHuawei, which were analyzed by returning these two important information.

Xiaomi Mi 7 Notch Display with IR Camera

Although Essential Phone was the first smartphone to have the so-called notch on the display is alone after the presentation of the iPhone X the trend of this design took over as seen from the clone series on show at the MWC 2018. But this is not the only thing that the producers were inspired by, in fact even the upcoming Huawei P20 and the recent Samsung Galaxy S9 offer software features to rival Apple's Face ID. Then even Xiaomi for his Mi 7 seems to follow this trend confirming that the delay of the presentation is due precisely to the implementation of this.

The previous analysis of the firmware files showed that the 7 Mi will have a OLED display with Always On function, CPU Snapdragon 845 and one battery from 3400 mAh but now the search for indicative strings in the firmware file confirm that the Notch and its IR camera will be present. Within the MIUI Camera, MIUI SystemUI and MIUI Settings apps, many references have been found indicating the presence of the notch but even more important are the references of the code responsible for adjusting the height of the status bar and the possibility of customizing the battery indicator and notification icons in the MIUI status bar settings, as shown by the string in the build.prop file that has value 1 = true in the string build.prop.ro.miui.notch.

Within the MIUI Keyguard app (the app responsible for the lock screen and all its features), is present a new unlocking method called openIRCamera which is found in different positions within the firmware and in entries related to the Face Unlock feature of MIUI. So it is plausible to believe that IRCamera refers to an infrared camera sensor, which is one of the components used in Apple's Face ID.

Of course, the analysis of the firmware file is still in progress, so if developments should occur, we will not be long to provide it, so stay connected to us.
