We rely on the FCC (the American equivalent of TENAA) and its documents to inform you that the Xiaomi Mi Box presented at the Google I/O 2016 and having on board the operating system Android TV has obtained the necessary certifications for marketing in the consumer market.
For those who do not know, it is a particular variant of the Mi Box already marketed with a proprietary OS in China having on board the platform for TV developed by Google.
Obviously, the main target market for this Xiaomi Mi box with Android TV is the US market. From a commercial point of view, this is a very smart move for both Google (Android TV developer that is not an open source OS) and for Xiaomi, as both will benefit greatly.
Unfortunately, at the moment we do not have precise information on when the set-top-box will actually arrive officially in the USA and will be available for purchase. At the moment on the official site is reported a nice "coming soon" but considering the approval of the FCC, we believe that now it is weeks.
Of course, for us Italians it is absolutely not necessary to rely on importers to buy this box from the US, above all because the Android TV operating system can be easily found on devices marketed in Italy and with a more powerful Mi Box hardware, such as on Nvidia Shields Android TV.
Surely we will return to the topic as soon as we have more information about the date of arrival on the American market and the selling price.
