Official Xiaomi Mi Notes 3: But Is The Note Series Still alive?

As we had anticipated, today it would also be presented My Notes 3. The evolution of Mi Note 2 will think ... and instead no. Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is the breaking point with the Xiaomi Mi Note series: the smartphone presented today, in fact, is characterized by the resemblance to Mi 6 and the previous phablet series models. If you are curious to find out what Xiaomi has reserved for us, you just have to spit this short article!

Xiaomi Mi Notes 2 was astonished at curved edge edges, although it had never received ad hoc functions and despite the promise (not maintained) by Lei Jun that the edges of the device would resume to make sense - beyond that aesthetic - with the advent of MIUI 9. Obviously you know how it went and you know very well that Mi Note 2 still does not have specific features for edges that, however, give it a unique aura that is rare in Xiaomi's smartphone park.

However, this short incipit, however, we go to today's presentation and the new Mi Note 3!

Xiaomi Mi Notes 3, My 6 gets bigger!

The Mi Note series purists will not be happy, but unfortunately this is true: My Notes 3 becomes an "enlargement" of Mi 6, but not only ...

1

Aesthetics and display

Already from the first images the similarity is evident. Not that this dislikes the elegance of April's Xiaomi flagship, but personally with this Mi Note 3, Xiaomi has achieved a double result (good or bad): it has in fact excluded the possibility of the "Plus" series kept alive and has aggregated the characteristics of the Mi Note series to those of the Mi series for those who want a larger display.

The display of the My Notes 3, in fact, it becomes 5.5 FULL HD inches abandoning the AMOLED technology and the 5.7 diagonal of the old model and at the same time magnifying the diagonal of Mi 6.

Obviously the comparison with iPhone can not be missed, but as we have seen a few months ago with Mi 6, detail care is maniacal: the body is bent on all and 4 sides and made of glass, except for the frame side which, as for Mi MIX 2, is made of aluminum 7 ^ generation.

On the front, then, we find the sensor for the fingerprint recognition which, just like for Mi 6, is under body and casing.

2

Camera and audio

You have already skimmed the first images of the device so I will not hold you on the plugs. The novelty, however, concerns the front camera which goes well 16 Mpx and is equipped with the interesting function AI Beautify for perfect selfie lovers.

As you can see, Xiaomi has also thought it good to integrate on the Mi Note 3 the ability to unlock the device facial recognition. Lei Jun has focused a lot on this camera as, as you will know, the Chinese are very vanity and try to improve every shot with effects and modifications, so Xiaomi meets their needs recreating a series of photographic effects through a simple shooting mode.

Less innovative talk about the rear cameras which resurfaces what already seen on Mi 6. Nothing new but I remember that we will have a wide-angle camera, optically stabilized at 4 axes, with f / 1.8 aperture at 27 mm and a telescopic lens with 2X optical zoom and f / 2.6 aperture at 52 mm. Both from 12 Mpx.

After leaving some photographic sample, unfortunately still to be appreciated not at full resolution, let's move on to the audio compartment ... which is stereo!

Yes you understand it well! Xiaomi Mi Note 3 has a subfund stereo audio which will make multimedia entertainment much more complete than other devices.

3

Hardware

A surprise, but not too much, is the choice to mount the Snapdragon 660 which, though inexperienced eyes may seem like a medium range, is a processor superior to the Snapdragon 821 mounted on Mi Note 2, on Mi 5S and on Mi MIX, both in terms of performance than energy consumption.

The processor will inevitably guarantee lower power consumption and therefore Xiaomi engineers have opted for a battery reduction on the new generation of Mi Note: it goes from the 4000 mAh to the 3500 mAh. A justified choice besides the less energetic SoC, even by the reduction of the diagonal and the passage to an IPS panel.

This choice, of course, led to a clear lightening of the device ... but let's talk about it in between poco.

Before summarizing the specifications and showing you the prices, we want to inform you that on board My Notes 3 you will find both theNFC that ... the door to infrared, so loved by the owners of a Xiaomi. These two features will of course include RAM memories and internal storage according to the following configurations:

  • RAM memory from 6 GB (LPDDR4X) / 64 GB of internal storage EMMC 5.1
  • RAM memory from 6 GB (LPDDR4X) / 128 GB of internal storage EMMC 5.1

The blue variant will only come on the market when cutting 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.

If I can express a personal opinion, to which probably (and I hope) you will answer in the comments, Mi Note 3 is anything but a Mi Note. Yes, maybe I speak purist, but having had the good fortune to try Mi Note 2 directly, I can say that this new model leaves me very perplexed. Not so much for the processor or memories, but for the concept of Mi Note itself. If before the edge display and the diagonal 5.7 inches could be a discriminant to choose Mi Note instead of another device, now with the display from 5.5 inches and the same aesthetics of Mi 6, choose Mi Note 3 becomes quite complicated.

Let's not forget to launch it simultaneously with Mi MIX 2, which, just as it did last year, has removed visibility from Mi Note. But if the visibility of Mi Note 2 last year has been maintained at a certain level thanks to edge edges and AMOLED display, can you say the same today with Mi Note 3?

I would have preferred it immensely to have it declared as a Mi6 Plus alluding to the end of the Mi Note series (as it actually is). But perhaps the last generation that saw Mi5sPlus and Mi Note 2 on sale "together" wanted to be an "experiment" to verify the market response and customer preferences. Apparently, perhaps, in Xiaomi they have seen that the market has preferred Mi5s Plus to Mi Note 2 and therefore they wanted to proceed in that direction. At this point I see the Mi Note 2 with new eyes and I interpret it as an exercise in style and an experiment... Read the rest »

Agree with you: it's a Mi 6 plus. I don't understand this choice, they have effectively eliminated the Note series.
I would have expected an evolution of the old model, perhaps giving functions to the curved edges, optimizing the dimensions with the same screen and inserting some good news (like a DAB radio). Instead he is a well-trained MI6.
