OLED displays are used on most high-end smartphones on the market and every year more and more companies are shifting their focus from traditional LCD displays to premium OLED panels to be used on their flagship models. Even Apple has made this choice for its iPhone X, equipped with an OLED screen so that it is said that the Cupertino giant could occupy most of the production of Samsung.
Apple also seems to want to increase the acquisition of OLED displays in virtue that in the 2018 probably will present 3 new models of iPhone, so much so that it will also turn to LG for the supply of the panels.
This is causing that companies like Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO are looking for alternative technologies, like the one seen at CES 2018 by the Innolux company that brought to the event a 10,1 inch display with technology mini LED. And this technology will provide the 3 Chinese smartphone manufacturers, so as to counter the possible future deficiency that could affect this year's supplies for "fault" of Apple.
Xiaomi and other companies are already negotiating with manufacturers of mini LED displays for the beginning of the development that will lead to the supply to be installed on their terminals, with delivery forecast in the second half of the 2018, just in the period when Apple will start mass production of the new generation iPhone. Industry analysts report that the recent technology improvements of the new mini LED displays will help reduce production costs, thus increasing the will of smartphone manufacturers to adopt this technology.
