Xiaomi thinks of an absurd camera that photographs in two directions

Xiaomi was among the first companies to try their hand at developing the camera under the display. The first device, not offered for sale, to bring this technology was Xiaomi mi 10 ultra. Although this piece may seem the latest in a series of technologies to integrate the camera on a smartphone, we must know that the company has never stopped studying. In fact, as reported by the team of LetsGoDigital, has been from poco certified one solution to keep the front and rear cameras hidden through a pop-up mechanism, but not as we know. Let's go see all the details.

Xiaomi has a very large pop-up photo module in mind that can take pictures in two directions

According to the team from the Netherlands, a patent dated 7 January 2021 and filed at theUnited States and Trademark Office (USPTO) and at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) would show what is there (perhaps) definitive solution for Xiaomi in the field of concealing cameras. It is not about hiding only the front cameras as we usually see in smartphones, but also the rear ones. The patent title refers to a "hidden camera". As we can see from the pictures below, they come used several modules and a reflective part, similar to a mirror. At the bottom we find the two cameras and at the top the reflective component. But how does this mechanism work by grace?

xiaomi rotating camera

From what we learn the two cameras facing upwards would take the photo and, through the mirror located in the upper module they would be able to store it. A question arises spontaneously though: this applies to the rear photos, but to those Selfie? Nothing easier. Xiaomi thought of make the upper module (the mirrored one) rotating thanks to a piston. This way when we potentially choose the selfie photo mode, the module turns and photographs what is ahead.

But what is it for?

One of the most important things this solution would bring is the quality to the front sensors. As a rule, the front cameras are the poorer ones while the rear ones are of better quality. This way instead Xiaomi would use the same cameras for both sides. This leads to a consequent lower costs as smartphones that previously had 4 sensors, will now only have two. However, it is a patent, so it is unlikely if not impossible to see the solution adopted in the more or less near future.
