The SU7 was first shown to the public in the first 60 stores located in 29 cities, a sign that Xiaomi is ready to revolutionize the market with its new proposal. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing confirmed that the SU7 display models are already available to the public, anticipating an atmosphere of great anticipation for the official launch.

Despite the enthusiasm, a veil of mystery remains regarding deliveries: it is not clear whether they will begin on the same day as the launch or if we will have to wait a few more days. However, the Xiaomi EV factory is ready and deliveries will begin as soon as the SU7 is launched, with production expected to accelerate rapidly.

Xiaomi officially announced its entry into car manufacturing on March 30, 2021, and debuted the SU7 electric sedan on December 28, 2023. The price of the model has not yet been announced, but according to local media rumors, Xiaomi's management positioned the model at a significantly lower price than expected last year, amid the price war in China's EV industry.

Xiaomi's choice to start with a sedan model has sparked a lot of debate, unlike many other new Chinese car makers who have launched sport utility vehicle (SUV) models first. Other EV makers, including Nio (NYSE: NIO), Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), all started with SUVs to meet local consumers' preference for more space. Currently, Nio and Xpeng's models are mainly SUVs, while Li Auto's models are all SUVs.

In a video on Weibo, the founder, president and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, explained the reasoning behind the choice. Cars are made to drive, and sedans offer a better driving experience and are better suited for one person's daily use, as well as for a family of two and other small families, Lei said. The car market sedans are in high demand, with total demand approximately equal to that of SUVs. You pointed out that it is very difficult to build a good pure electric sedan, and that there are not many quality pure electric sedans on the market currently.
