xiaomi corporation recently published his first white paper on climate action, outlining its efforts to combat climate change. Presented by Alain Lam Sai-wai, Vice President and CFO of the company, during the 28th United Nations climate change conference (COP 28), the document emphasizes Xiaomi's approach to the transition towards zero carbon emissions, based on technological innovation.
La Zero-carbon Philosophy by Xiaomi
Xiaomi's strategy, called "Zero-carbon Philosophy“, includes the use of AIoT (Artificial Internet of Things) powered by artificial intelligence to create green products and sustainable supply chains, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
Xiaomi's white paper details how the company is decarbonizing its operations improving energy efficiency and adopting smart manufacturing practices. Xiaomi is also encouraging its partners to adopt climate goals compatible with its commitment to carbon neutrality. This involves switching to renewable energy sources and improving the use, recycling and reuse of materials.
The company has implemented its zero-carbon philosophy in products and services, making them more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly. The use of artificial intelligence technologies in manufacturing has allowed Xiaomi to offer consumers more sustainable lifestyle choices. An example of this is the use of smart-home solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in homes.
Xiaomi is also promoting a circular business model, engaging in a series of global sustainability initiatives, such as setting net zero emissions targets,membership of the GE100% initiative, expanding e-waste recycling programs, and increasing the use of renewable energy. Between 2022 and 2026, the company plans to recycle 38.000 tons of e-waste and invest in renewable energy projects.
