Although not known to most, Vertu was a luxury smartphone brand dedicated to the Chinese market. Unfortunately, however, probably due to the high price of its devices, in combination with hardware and software not at the best levels, the company went bankrupt in 2017.
Xor Titanium presented: the new luxury mobile will cost € 3300
Well, today a group of former Vertu employees has created a new brand with the same philosophy, we welcome “Xor”.
Xor is a company formed by Hutch Hutchison, former head of design at Vertu, along with many of his previous colleagues. Also, part of the company was funded by former Vertu customers - people with too much money to spend.
In any case, the brand's first device is the Xor Titanium, a classic hand-built phone in England priced at £ 3.000 (€ 3300). As the name suggests, the phone features a titanium casing combined with a leather back and old-school T9 keyboard. The software is instead based on Linux, but light years away from Android.
Not being a smartphone, the Xor Titanium can only make voice calls and send SMS. However, there are some modern features such as active noise cancellation during calls and wireless charging. Also, most likely due to the lack of Android and features like in smartphones, the battery can last up to 5 days on a single charge.
Finally, Hutch Hutchison says the Xor Titanium will be released in the first quarter of 2021.
