YHE BP Doctor Pro – It is not a SMARTWATCH nor a SPORTWATCH but MEASURES BLOOD PRESSURE

Apple Watch (all generations) and Samsung's smartwatches are considered the best out there, boasting the top positions in terms of sales. The potential of these devices is often underlined not only from a smart point of view but also as regards being a health monitoring tool. However, one thing the wearables of Apple and Samsung (but also other brands) are not able to do, namely the measurement of blood pressure, a feature that in some cases could really represent a matter of life and death. Here then is the solution to the problem that comes directly from the YHE brand it has poco the BP Doctor Pro watch has been released for sale. Let's find out together in this complete review.

CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS

The BP Doctor Pro "smartwatch" doesn't quite have the elegance of the Apple Watch or other emblazoned products but is nonetheless pleasant in terms of shape and aesthetics. First of all let's talk about noble materials, considering a frame completely made of stainless steel, which brings the weight to 80 grams, but the strap made of skin-friendly silicone makes it comfortable to wear. Just the 30mm strap is one of the revolutionary aspects of this watch, as it integrates a sheath that will inflate during the blood pressure measurement operation, squeezing the wrist to capture the values relating to systolic and diastolic pressure, just like takes place with the classic home blood pressure monitors. Being completely special and unique, but not indestructible, you can receive a second replacement strap, if you buy from the official storeby placing it in the cart and using the discount coupon EITech.

On the right profile we find two buttons: the upper one (with measurements far too small to be pressed by stubby fingers) to turn on / off the display or if held down it will turn off the clock. Attention, because when I say turn on/off the display, I mean that this button will completely deactivate the display, for example canceling the wrist gesture for waking up. Furthermore, if you activate the AOD function and then go and press the aforementioned button, the display will remain off until a new input. The lower button, which instead has correct measurements, if pressed will allow you to wake up the display or enter the smartwatch menu, as well as return to the Home.

DISPLAY

So I introduce the display paragraph, which in the case of the BP Doctor Pro is a 1,41-inch unit with AMOLED technology and 320×360 resolution. This technology guarantees excellent vision even in direct sunlight and above all deep blacks, but the Always On Display function I was telling you about earlier is actually not the usual one we are used to with other smartwatches, but in the literal sense it will keep the screen H24, effectively reducing the autonomy to less than 24 hours. There is also no backlight sensor, so you'll have to manually adjust the value to your liking. I would have accepted these compromises but I have not digested the reactivity of the touch, really poor, in fact to lower the settings curtain you will have to do more tests.

SENSORS

Turning the device over we are faced with a series of sensors that help not only to measure the aforementioned blood pressure, but also to monitor heart rate (the only measurable value H24) and blood oxygen levels (SpO2). There are also magnetic contacts used to charge the integrated 170 mAh battery, an action that occurs only when we insert the BP Doctor Pro into the supplied charging dock, which is in turn powered by a cable with a micro USB connection.

AUTONOMY

It takes about 1,5 hours to recharge, and getting the watch out of the dock is a bit difficult, as the snap-on nature of the design doesn't provide a grip or release mechanism. You just have to pull it out with a little force, however, it does the job and the watch certainly won't slip out during the night, leaving you with a dead battery in the morning. Autonomy is not the strong point of this device which, depending on usage, could last from a minimum of one day to a maximum of 7, a value that can only be reached if you use the smartwatch as a clock, activating the super function. energy saving. With standard use, therefore by carrying out at least two pressure measurements a day, receiving notifications, waking up the display with wrist gestures, 24-hour heart rate, you will get to 2 full days.

HEALTH DATA MONITOR

I specify immediately that BP Doctor Pro is not a medical device and does not enjoy any medical certification recognized in Europe and/or Italy and I emphasize this because unfortunately some improvised reviewers, speaking of this device, said quite the opposite of what I have just paid attention.

Being able to monitor your blood pressure regularly is something that could help you avoid serious health risks that might otherwise go unnoticed, such as hypertension (persistently high blood pressure), kidney disease, stroke, and more. The way blood pressure is analyzed comes in the form of two measurements – systolic and diastolic – which are displayed as, for example, 120/70. As defined by the NHS, the first number (systolic) is 'how hard your heart pumps blood around your body', while the diastolic metric 'is the resistance to blood flow in your blood vessels'.

BP Doctor Pro uses an inflation section within the band, which narrows around the area just above the wrist. This allows the device to get a better picture of your blood pressure through its various sensors. For a correct posture in the measurement, the sales package can be used, designed for this purpose, by placing the wrist on top of it. Having said that, comparing the measurements obtained by BP Doctor Pro with a "professional" instrument, these appear very similar and only in rare cases have I found "worrying" differences.

The data is also conveyed within the companion app and this allows you to build a picture of blood pressure and how it changes over time, allowing for a greater understanding of the state of cardiovascular health. What I liked is the possibility of measuring wrist pressure, switching to a Guest card, therefore the measurement made on the fly to the friend / relative on duty will not affect personal history.

In addition to blood pressure readings, BP Doctor Pro allows you to monitor your current heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen levels, sleep monitoring and of course daily step count. Even for these values, YHE's watch provided accuracy in the recorded measurements which all together contribute to an accurate clinical picture. Do not underestimate the HRV which monitors the coherence of the heart rate to identify any potentially dangerous variations.

On the other hand, the sports sector is scarce, having only 3 sports available (running and walking outdoors, treadmill) with very basic metrics. Furthermore, it is not possible to have a trace of the route taken even using the smartphone as a support, considering the absence of GPS on the smartwatch. Fortunately, there are different goals you can set for each exercise (time, distance and calories) so you can keep going until you reach your goal.

SMART FUNCTIONS

Here too the BP Doctor Pro falls short. Nothing to do with modern smartwatches, even the cheapest ones, only allowing you to view the weather and receive notifications and calls, which you cannot answer. Furthermore, it is not possible to receive notifications from all apps, for example Telegram is absent, in addition to the fact that these are not synchronized with the smartphone. Instead, you can set an alarm directly from the clock, with awakening via a slight vibration. One thing that can come in handy instead is the ability to turn off Bluetooth, perhaps if you have to face a plane trip.

APP COMPANION

Do not miss the proprietary application that can manage the functions of the watch as well as keep track of all the health statistics. Available for Android and iOS, the application responds to the name of BPDoctor PLUS, with a very simple interface. At the level of watchfaces, we have a choice limited to only 12 dials, just as the rest of the settings are limited.

PROJECTED IMPACT

The BP Doctor Pro is a major product, capable of monitoring blood pressure (rather than just heart rate or blood oxygen saturation), a metric that carries more weight when it comes to offering real life-saving potential; so having it on a wearable is something of a benchmark. The band that inflates does not take up much space and therefore wearing this device is also quite pleasant but above all the health values captured by this watch are really reliable and precise. The sad truth is that with the expense we have to bear for this BP Doctor Pro, i.e. 199 dollars, we can take home a respectable smartwatch, because on balance we can measure blood pressure with a dedicated, less expensive and certainly high-performance device . I was really hooked on the BP Doctor Pro, but right now, with today's competitive market, it simply doesn't hold a candle to rivals.

6.8 Total score
YHE BP DOCTOR PRO

BP Doctor Pro offers an extremely rare and important feature, namely the ability to measure blood pressure with an almost "medical device" degree of reliability even if there are no certifications in this regard. Unfortunately, there are no smart or sportwatch functions, effectively making the user experience fragmentary. Ideal for those who want to keep their health values under control without resorting to the typical functions of wearables. Perhaps the price is high considering that the product can be defined as niche.
