A well-known Chinese blogger shows us in preview the shots of what should be the camera support that will integrate a mammoth photographic sensor, heir to the 108 megapixel Samsung HMX that we have seen on Xiaomi Mi Note 10. According to him, it is the brand's patent (take everything with pliers, even if it is quite reliable).
Currently we lack the basics to understand the true functioning of this sensor, but here we see photos of what will be the support rather than the sensor itself. We talk about legacy but in all frankness we do not know who will be the supplier of this camera. THE candidates are Sony and Samsung, but nothing is said yet. Continuing with the images, we see that the support is made up of more than one section. We find in fact three layers which, when superimposed, form a sort of sensor housing.
One of these, the largest, is more massive than the others and this could indicate that this sensor will suffer from one fragility truly remarkable. In short, for the moment it is still too early to give details, also because we don't have any. We can only speculate that the technology on board this sensor will be an evolution of what it is Quad Bayer: each of three colors (red, green and blue) is divided into four parts, allowing both to have two different exposures within a group of four pixels, both being used as a classic Bayer filter, for increase detail when the light is very intense (source). Despite the scarcity of data in our possession, we need to be aware of the existence of these patents and how, in a few years, we will have to get used to finding them on our smartphones.
