Android 13: An old Apple feature is coming

Android 13 is practically there, although many users are still waiting for the twelfth release. The the features that will bring with it the thirteenth major release will be many and some we have seen it preview. Today, thanks to the new channel set up by the former member XDA Developers Mishaal Rahman, we know of a feature coming to Android 13. This feature that Apple has been giving to users for years: it is the LED flash brightness control.

Android 13 will bring a feature Apple has been offering for years: LED flash brightness control. Not on / off, but gradual. Sounds cool!

Most of the green robot devices only offer an On / Off option for the LED flash. However we have news that Android 13 will introduce one or two APIs that will allow gradually control the brightness of the flash. Google's next operating system includes two new APIs, namely "getTorchStrengthLevel"and "turnOnTorchWithStrengthLevel". The first brings up the brightness level of the LED flash, while the second sets it from a minimum value of 1 to a maximum determined by the hardware.

Previously, apps could only turn the LED flash on or off using the “setTorchMode” API. Said this, not all smartphones with updated thirteenth edition firmware may be able to vary the brightness levels of the flashlight. According to the source, support for the feature will require a updating camera hardware. Basically it is possible that only smartphones Google Pixel can get the function with Android 13.
