Android with a 64-bit architecture starting in 2023

Xiaomi, Oppo and vivo said goodbye to 32-bit apps. We explained the reasons some time ago: we invite you to read the dedicated article to find out more. But what if we told you that Android will also abandon this architecture? Google would be working for move Android to a 64-bit based architecture. Currently, the mobile operating system runs on 32-bit one standard considered old and slower (as well as less secure) in data processing.

64-bit Android: the experts' forecast for 2023. It promises to be a super efficient and super fast operating system

According to information from Ars Technica (via Mishaal Rahman), Google's plan is to release a 64-bit Android build for the Pixel Tablet, which is expected to be equipped with the tensor chipset in 2023. The device would be the first to receive this change but it is easy to think that even smartphones in the future will have to support this standard. The main difference between 32 and 64 bit lies in the ability to process a larger amount of data. 32-bit processors are often slower and less secure. 64-bit chips are newer, faster and have greater security.

android 64 bit

iOS, the main competitor of Android, is based on 64-bit since 2017. However, as Google's system is open with several mobile device manufacturers, 64-bit porting can do much, much more than we imagine. The ecosystem of Google Play Store is expected to be ahead in 64-bit support, as Google has required native code apps (generally games) to provide 64-bit versions since 2019.

Instead, as far as hardware is concerned, every SoC released in recent years must or should support 64 bits. Any main chip following the ARM design supports 32-bit processing on three of the eight cores, while the other five are 64-bit. ARM for its part wants to completely eliminate 32-bit support from its SoC design in 2023, but there are already rumors that Qualcomm does not want to follow this recommended standard. because of China, which has an ecosystem of its own 32-bit apps.

When?

Finally, the information suggests that 64-bit only support might be a standard feature starting with Android 14 of 2023. However, it is still early for an official.
