Android will tell you everything, really everything you need to know about your battery status

Has having information about your Android smartphone's battery become a problem because you use third-party applications? Yes, I know it's like that for me too. Recently, they have been discoveries new features that allow users to better monitor and manage the battery health of your device. What was previously done with applications like AccuBattery, in the future it will be possible to do it without the aid of external tools.

Android updates for advanced battery management

Android smartphones are experiencing an era of continuous updates, aimed at extending the useful life of the devices. With the Google Pixel 8 series which receives updates for up to seven years, the focus now shifts to one more efficient battery management. One of the crucial aspects for those who plan to use their phone for an extended period is the need for replace la battery on Android smartphones, a component that naturally tends to degrade over time. However, understanding when it is actually time to replace it is not always easy.

Batteries degrade, reducing the maximum charge capacity and, consequently, the life of the phone on a single charge. Existing applications deliver rough estimates of remaining battery capacity, but they often take a long time to provide an accurate measurement and can still be unreliable.

Android settings page where you can read general battery information

Fortunately, Google is working to improve this situation. With Android 14 the first step towards monitoring battery health was laid, while Android 15 could actually bring this information to the attention of users. In December 2023, with the release of the Pixel Feature Drop, Google has introduced a new “battery information” page in settings, which shows data like the date di manufacture and battery cycle count.

But that's not all, as Android 14 exposed apps to new APIs to access even more specific details about battery health.

Android settings page where you can read the battery health

The next version of the Settings app should include one page dedicated to “battery health”, providing more accurate estimates of current capacity. While this feature is not yet fully operational, it represents a significant step towards giving users greater transparency and control over their battery health.

In addition to these developments, Google is working to make additional Android battery information available to the operating system, such as component status and serial number. This strengthens the ability for users to better understand and manage battery health, offering a more detailed and accurate perspective than ever before. Basically, with the serial number it will be possible to repair your device by changing the battery. A policy that Europe seems to have imposed in a decisive manner.
