Up until now, ChatGPT for Android has been a dream. Users, in order to be able to use it on their smartphones, had no other choice but create a shortcut on your desktop of the device and access via browser. Only Apple users, owning an iPhone, could use the official application released by OpenAI. But things are changing: OpenAI is officially releasing ChatGPT for Android and there launch date is set for next week.
When the app comes to Android, it's expected to have a structure similar to that of the currently available iOS app. Premium users will be able to access a more advanced version of the language model called GPT-4, which will offer more powerful performance and faster response times. Free users will be able to use Whisper, OpenAI's speech recognition software, and sync the app across multiple devices. Basically, the application offers the same functionality that was available before, but now it is available as a native app.
This move comes at a time when Google is looking to broaden its presence in artificial intelligence with new projects such as Duet AI and the integration of generative AI into Google Search. While these features aren't exactly a chatbot, AI in search should theoretically provide reliable information, provided the language model is able to distinguish between fact and fiction.
