In particular, new controls have been introduced on chat history and its sharing for LLM training purposes. Thanks to the new ChatGPT settings, users can choose to turn off chat history, thus preventing their conversations from being used for training the model behind ChatGPT and for building text databases. Furthermore, if history is disabled, conversations will not be saved in the history sidebar.
This novelty was introduced following a series of problems related to user privacy, which also saw the involvement of the competent authorities in the field of personal data protection. In particular, due to a bug dating back to march, some chat histories of ChatGPT users have been exposed to third parties without their consent. This has raised important privacy concerns, which OpenAI has decided to address new stricter controls.
Regarding the sharing of data for training purposes, OpenAI has also specified that the internal conversations will be kept for up to 30 days and that they will only be reviewed when necessary to monitor for any abuse. After this period, the conversations will be permanently deleted, ensuring maximum protection of user privacy.
