Here's how the camera works under the Xiaomi display

After the novelty of the pop-up camera seen on Redmi's K20 series and that we could soon appreciate on the flaming Mi 9T and Mi 9T pro, Xiaomi catches the attention of the media again thanks to a video posted a few hours ago and that surprises for a innovative camera under the display. We've talked about it in this article, also citing the fact that there is already a prototype of the Mi 9 equipped with this new technology and that probably the launch of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro has served the company to take time and perfect that novelty.

In fact the camera under the display will allow a true and unique concept of full screen, because when necessary the portion of the screen that conceals the camera becomes transparent allowing the sensor to see through. Magic or something else? Xiang Wang, senior vice president of Xiaomi, explains it to us through some teasers that appeared on their social profiles.

Among the things that emerge from what is posted on social media is that this technology could take some time before seeing it in action, even if knowing Xiaomi, this could come out at any moment. Inside the first teaser we find phrases like: “Xiaomi is exploring the possibility of hiding the selfie camera in the display", Or"This could be the final solution for full screen displays". A wide use of the conditional that confirms a NOT imminent possibility of release of the new technology.

But apart from these thoughts, we note with particular attention the functioning of the display that shows this technology, which consists of several layers: the first is a real transparent display that Xiaomi has obtained thanks to a special low reflectance and high glass transmittance, which translates into a fluid and problem-free passage of light. The sensor that Xiaomi used for testing is an 20 MP, which uses the display itself as a lens.

A very special treatment that promises sharper and brighter pictures than traditional technology offers us. Moreover the general design of the front of the smartphone will be even more appealing thanks to a completely linear off profile because the selfie camera will be invisible to the naked eye. An intriguing novelty but at the same time that could make us reflect on the fact that we should say goodbye to any protective glass films on the display? Or maybe Xiaomi will adopt similar solutions to what we saw on Samsung's Galaxy Fold?
