Escobar is an old malware with a new dress: beware!

Last time we dealt with a virus which allows you to steal all banking data through an app. Today we are talking about an old acquaintance, less known to most, who has changed his name. Once she was called Aberebot but today it has taken on a new, rather curious name: Escobar. The malware aims to steal the user's bank details. Let's see how and how to avoid it.

A new malware, or rather old, comes back with new guises: we are talking about Aberebot which now takes the name of Escobar. What does it entail?

The specialists of KELA, a company specializing in IT security solutions, they found out a new banking Trojan on the network, named after the infamous Pablo Escobar. Malware poses a threat to users of nearly two hundred banks around the world.

According to the source, the new virus is an improved version of the old Aberebot banking trojan with advanced features. It is able to check infected Android devices, record sounds and take pictures with the camera. Once on a smartphone, the malware pretends to be a mobile client of one of the 190 banks or a crypto wallet to lure the user's login and password from the account.

In addition, Escobar requires numerous permissions for various smartphone functions: reading messages, determining the location of the device via GPS and more. After collecting various data, the Trojan sends it to the attackers' servers for further theft of money from the victim's account. IT specialists they notice that the virus Escobar can enter a target device via a phishing SMS or under the pretext of another program.

To protect the device from hacking, experts advised Android device owners of avoid installing APK files from third party sites and make sure that the Google Play Protect system is active on your device.
