Le smartphone cameras they are an element that increasingly interests users. Regardless of the number of megapixels, and therefore of the resolution, the important thing is that they are well-made sensors. In fact, the less experienced try to replace the "old" camera with a mobile device. But what are the sensors (in terms of resolution) most popular in 2021? Counterpoint Research he tells us accurately.
A Counterpoint research highlights what are the most common smartphone cameras. We are not talking about brands but about resolution
live is one of the companies that focuses most on the smartphone camera industry. There collaboration with ZEISS it paid off and drove sales dramatically. Despite the scarcity of components, i High-definition image sensors are increasingly used in smartphone cameras. This is significantly up from 38.7% in the first quarter of 2021. The share of cameras alone with a resolution of 64 megapixels increased in the same quarter from 3.5% to 14%. In general, cameras from 48 and 64 megapixels have become the most used for devices costing between € 250 and € 400, while in flagship smartphones there has been a tendency to increase the sensor size for better images. The most common resolution of such sensors is 50 megapixel.
With regard to front cameras, in the second quarter of 2021, the share of resolutions from 20 megapixel or more remained virtually unchanged from the previous quarter due to a decline in model sales.
Interestingly, in the case of cameras with one lower resolution, you continue to observe one imbalance between supply and demand, as a result of which their price increases. For example, sensors with a resolution of 5 megapixels are increased in price by more than 10% since the beginning of this year.
