The 30W of Pixel 8 recharges the battery faster than before

Charging speed has always been one of the challenges in the world of smartphones. While the Google Pixel 7 series offered acceptable charging times, with the new Google Pixel 8 series, the Mountain View company decided to raise the bar. Apparently the charging speed of the new duo of Google smartphones has increased, highlighting the technical specifications that contribute to this improvement. Here are the details.

How long does it take the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro to charge

Google did leaps and bounds with its new models, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, ensuring faster charging times which translates into greater efficiency for users. A test conducted by the staff of Android Authority revealed that, using the official 30W Google charger, the times required to bring the battery from 0% to 100% were 77 and 79 minutes respectively. This is a significant advance when compared to its predecessors, which took 100 and 101 minutes for the same charge.

Because they recharge faster

Technicalities behind the efficiency: The secret of this renewed efficiency lies in the support for higher power peaks. The base model of the Pixel 8 supports up to 27W of power, while the Pro version can reach 30W.

Although these peaks were not reached in the tests, both models showed an increase in power compared to the previous generation, with a increase of +2W for the Pro version and +5W for the basic one. This technical improvement translates into faster charging, allowing the models to reach around 80% autonomy more quickly, before the charging speed begins to decrease.

What does faster charging mean?

Despite the advantages in terms of charging times, it is important to note that the improved charging system led to a slight increase in temperature during the charging phase, going from 36,5°C of the previous generation to 38°C with the new models.

This could imply that, following intensive sessions of use, the Google Pixel 8 series devices can take a little longer to recharge, especially if the device is already very hot.
