Taking a broader look at the European Patent Office's 'Patent Index 2022', we note that there has been a 2,5% increase in patent applications over last year, thus confirming the strong drive towards innovation even in a period characterized by numerous uncertainties at a global level. In detail, China has made a strong contribution by focusing on the technological field and registering an increase in patent applications of +15% compared to 2021, a figure that has more than doubled in the last five years. The contribution of non-European countries at the EPO thus confirms the attractiveness of the European technological market for companies from all over the world.
