iZEEKER iA800 – The only ECONOMIC ACTION CAM alternative to GoPro, Insta360 and DJI

With the arrival of summer, the purchase of an action camera becomes an increasingly heated desire, but in general the common user does not need professional tools such as those offered by GoPro, Insta360 or DJI, but simply would like to capture the excursion to the sea perhaps with snorkelling activities, or a motorcycle ride through the local hills and much more, so we often divert to cheap products which unfortunately turn out to be poor both in terms of construction and video quality. Yet there is a valid economic alternative to the more famous products on the market, able to offer for poco more than 100 euros, high-level video and audio quality, stabilization worthy of the name, a super-complete set of accessories and even a double display to allow you to vlog. His name is iZEEKER iA800 and I present it to you in detail in this review.

CONSTRUCTION

From the constructive point of view iZEEKER iA800 is already appreciated as it offers a frame made of aluminum with the rest of the body made of plastic, but of high quality and resistance. You can feel from the weight in your hand that it is not the usual "Chinese" action camera. In fact, there are no crunches but above all the materials used and their assembly allows the action camera to be immersed up to 5 meters without the addition of a case, which if used will bring the possibility of immersion up to 40 meters. In this regard, the DIVING MODE function is available which basically applies a sort of LUT filter for better color rendering underwater. On the upper profile we can admire the photo and video shutter button which also performs the action confirmation function in navigating the system menus, as well as the microphone. The latter proved to be quite efficient in capturing audio and at the system level we can also benefit from the wind noise reduction function, expanding the possibilities of using the room.

On the left frame we have a small speaker and a door, inside which we have a silicone sheath for waterproofing, which hides the USB Type-C input inside for recharging or for connecting to a PC, but unfortunately it fails to convey the audio for the possible use of external microphones and then the mini HDMI input for connecting external monitors or for direct connection to a TV to directly view what is recorded on the big screen. On the right we have two buttons, the upper one which performs the on/off function or menu recall while the lower one will be used to scroll through the menus while if held down it will allow you to switch from the main screen to the front one.

Oh yes, in fact, our iZEEKER iA800 has a front display that allows you to vlog enjoying the highest quality offered by the action camera, also ideal for taking selfie photos, making video interviews and much more, whose only limit remains your imagination. The front display is bright and large enough to allow a good shot without trying to understand what we are recording, but unfortunately it is not possible to switch from one display to another during recording. Next to this panel we find the optics, protected by a metal ring, which gives the camera a rugged appearance as well as protecting the lens in the event of falls. Finally, on the lower profile we find the door, also enriched by a silicone sheath for waterproofing the product, which conceals the battery compartment and the micro SD card slot with support up to 256 GB. There is no common tripod attachment, so you will always have to use the supplied accessories for any selfie stick attachment. In this regard, I really liked the case which, in addition to protecting the camera, also offers a small compartment for attaching accessories such as a light, perhaps for night vlogs.

I mentioned the front display before, but I can't fail to mention the main display positioned on the back of the iZEEKER iA800, a 2-inch touch panel that has good resolution and brightness, so you can set all the parameters even under direct sunlight. Sun. The scrolling fluidity is good and through swipes or touches we could manage all the functions without having to resort to using the physical buttons.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

We do not know exactly the technical characteristics of the iZEEKER iA800, except that everything is managed by the H22-S75 chip, which allows for videos to record up to 6K 30fps, an interpolated value, while with real resolution we have 4K 60fps and then go down at 2,7K, 1080p, 720p with various fps speeds, up to 240 for example for 720p, as among the video modes we also have the possibility of capturing a time lapse with different intervals (0,5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds) or slow motion.

We can also take photos with a maximum resolution of 24 MP, as well as enable a self-timer timer (up to 30 seconds) or shoot in burst mode up to 15 frames per second but, which is not obvious, shoot in RAW mode. The action cam software is almost entirely in Italian, in fact there are some translation smears, but still well organized through two main menus for each shooting mode and related submenus dedicated to these. By disabling stabilization, we can also enjoy a 10X zoom, but surely leaving it active will give you highly enjoyable and professional videos. However, there is no shortage of functions to correct the white balance, exposure compensation, sharpness and ISO, but also the possibility of applying some filters in real time. The menus scroll rather smoothly and the same goes for the main screen, while on the front one we have no control.

EXPERIENCE OF USE

iZEEKER iA800 allows you to capture photos and videos of the highest quality in an easy and immediately shareable way, for the price range to which it is placed. We have some software-level color profiles available but without having to apply any changes, the colors returned are decidedly excellent and faithful to reality, without showy saturations or high contrasts. We can record videos up to 6K at 30 fps but this is an interpolated value and in any case difficult to exploit for traditional use, while the 4K 60 fps resolution is real, where the definition and details are really a cut above the much crowded action camera competition low price. Surely this quality is at the top in daytime and well-lit scenes, while as the light goes down you can notice a loss of detail and the presence of digital noise, but it should also be noted that the use of these products is not intended for this purpose.

The LDC (Lens Distortion Correction) function is present, i.e. the correction of lens distortion (fish-eye effect) and the WDR (Wide Dynamic Range), i.e. the control of the dynamic range which on sunny and/or against light days allow do not have a burned sky or subjects in dim light. Certainly a minimum of post-production will help to obtain even more quality but overall the final result, without having to resort to elaborations, is more than acceptable. Even the photos, with shots up to 24 MP, highlight the good quality of the image/video processing algorithm and the quality of the lens and sensor used in the iZEEKER iA800, without ever accusing the watercolor effect seen in less valid products, rather in this regard, at the software level, we can also shoot in RAW mode, for professional post-production. I've already praised the audio capture, which appears quite clean and well audible.

But certainly one of the strengths is the presence of digital stabilization EIS 3.0, so valid as to make the result seem optical. I tried this feature on roller coasters and other reckless games, with excellent results, in fact the Horizon Correct function is present by default, thus always having the horizon in "focus". Even quick changes of direction or the most erratic rocking movements have a brilliant result, making the iZEEKER iA800 perfect for really "action" scenes.

In any case it is also unfair to compare such a cam to models that cost even 4 times as much, with a clearly different target, but know that whatever use you make of it you will not be disappointed. Then there is the companion app for smartphones, YUTUPRO, with which to set up and start recordings directly from a smartphone, therefore remotely, positioning the action camera in places where it would be difficult to make various settings and settings, or to start time lapses from the balcony, while it is raining outside and you are comfortably seated in an armchair.

The connection takes place via 2.4 GHz WiFi but if necessary you can also take advantage of the supplied remote control, this is really useful for example if you place the camera on the motorcycle helmet and you cannot activate the recording with gloves.

AUTONOMY

Already the fact of having two batteries in the package is a point in favor of the iZEEKER iA800, if we then add that we also have a charger available that allows you to recharge the batteries at the same time and therefore enjoy double autonomy, brings the judgment of this room at top levels. We are talking about two 1350 mAh batteries, which according to the manufacturer with a single charge offer up to 120 minutes of autonomy in recording at 1080p while 60 minutes in 4K mode.

Unfortunately these values ​​are not entirely real, in fact if we use the EIS 3.0 stabilization (not available in time lapse and/or slow motion mode), the value at 1080p 60 fps will drop to about 80/90 minutes while in 4K 60 fps the autonomy is increased to 40/45 minutes. Still excellent values ​​if we think that these refer to a single battery, but we have two, so we could easily record clips for an entire working day or for fun. The only flaw I found is that the indication of residual autonomy on the action cam is not precise, i.e. the residual charge value is indicated "in notches", while an exact percentage value would have been appreciated.

CONCLUSIONS AND PRICE

iZEEKER iA800 is offered on the market at a price of 169,99 euros, but on the Amazon store it is often possible to find it on offer, such as the one of the moment which offers a discount of 40 euros and an additional 20 euros to be redeemed via coupon directly from the d' page purchase, thus bringing the final price to 109,99 euros. The price in this case is a decisive factor, because at these figures it is not easy to find action cameras with two color screens and which record in 4K at real 60fps, with excellent image stabilization and completeness of accessories. We don't have a companion app worthy of GoPro, Insta360 and DJI, but this is certainly the most negligible aspect of the case, considering that you can basically process your videos with the many apps available on the Play Store / App Store, editing the recording in a professional way or in a modern way for use on various social networks.

So at this price, iZEEKER iA800 stands as the best solution to enter the world of action cameras, without sacrificing quality, but above all without having to pass out, especially if the use you will make of it will be the typical user, that is, occasional and unprofessional.
