Today, after a long wait, we witnessed the release of the last smartband heir of the beloved Mi Band 4. The Mi Band 5 looks like a technology concentrate to keep on the wrist although many have been disappointed with the poco change from the design. In fact, when compared on the fly with its predecessor this has the same egg design with similar if not the same measurements and strap. Bad differences in reality there are and are not few. Let's see them together.
A mega comparison between Mi Band 5 and Mi Band 4: is it worth the transition from one to the other?
Display
First, the display of the Mi Band 5 is bigger compared to that of 4: 1.1 "instead of 0.95". The numbers are not so far from each other but in real use you can see a marked improvement in the visibility of notifications: this is because it is the display increased but the panel size remained unchanged. Unfortunately (or fortunately) a full display smartband was not brought to us, as the first (but false) leak reported. The technology is always the same AMOLED.
Themes and watchfaces
Based on what was reported during today's presentation, the topics and the watchfaces supported by the new smartband sfrom 77 of the previous model to over 100 for the current fifth version. We have a taste of the animated watchfaces below, with the first Neo Genesis Evangelion and Spongebob themed samples. Clearly, it will be possible to customize the functions of the dial.
Sports mode
In the Mi Band 4 we only had 6 sport modes available while with the updated Mi Band 5 we can count on well 11 mode. These sonotapis roulant, free exercise, outdoor running, cycling, walking, swimming, yoga, rowing machine, jump rope, indoor and elliptical cycling. It is not excluded that, as it happens for smartwatches Amazfit, the sport modes on the smartband will also come increase in the future.
NFC
Although today the presentation is dedicated to the Chinese version, we know that the global one too will be able to enjoy the NFC chip. We are awaiting clarification on this but we currently know that support for the UnionPay circuit has also been implemented for the overseas model. According to what we discovered a few days ago about the Mi Band 4 with NFC outside of China, the possibilities of the support a Mastercard and related circuits they are becoming more concrete.
Voice assistant
Both in the Chinese and extra-Chinese versions of the Mi Band 4, users could take advantage of the solo native voice assistant XiaoAI. The GeekDoing team has however discovered that in Europe the Mi Band 5 will arrive with the Amazon Alexa support. Support for Narrator 's voice assistant would have been nice too Google, but for now nothing.
Sleep monitoring and new features
A big difference lies in the functions of the two smartbands. The "old" woman could count on night sleep monitoring while the new one Mi Band 5 is equipped with 24-hour monitoring. Small clarification: on the official website it is clearly written that the heart rate monitor is only available on the variant with NFC.
As for the new features absent on the fourth edition, we have: pressure and breath monitoring, PAI, Fanointing dedicated to the menstrual cycle for women e control on the camera shutter smartphone. The REM mode: which allows you to have eye movement under control at night and to understand how many times you have woken up.
Battery and recharge
In terms of autonomy we have 14 days certified reaching 20 with a mild use. A substantial difference lies in the method of loading the Mi Band: we go from a "container" for the egg to one magnetic charging with dedicated connector. There battery of the Mi Band 5 results poco lower than 4: 125 mAh versus 135 mAh.
Our conclusions
If we consider that the exact same smartband will be brought to Europe, cin our opinion, ambio is more than motivated. Regardless of the battery, whose mAh gap does not affect the autonomy if not for a few minutes, everything we find on the Mi Band 5 is a step. From watchfaces to the most advanced features. Waiting for the arrival in our homeland we leave you the link for the pre-order of the Chinese / English or global version.
