OnePlus 10 Pro has arrived in Italy yesterday. The smartphone is the direct competitor, in the field of the top of the range, of Oppo Find X5 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro. In the last period more and more people are interested in the IP68 certification. OnePlus explained the "lack" of IP68 protection in their smartphones previously but now a new question seems to arise. Is the latest flagship IP68 certified or not? We read with curiosity the review by The Verge and we were surprised to find that there are two answers.
Is OnePlus 10 Pro IP68 certified? Apparently yes, but actually no. There are two identical versions but only one is certified. Because?
OnePlus 10 Pro is IP68 certified. But at the same time it is not IP68 certified. In the review by The Verge, the tested device was a non-branded model. However, we know that in the US, smartphones come in two versions: one unlocked, And a locked distributed by Verizon. For the sake of completeness, there are also two other versions in the US: one with 5G connectivity and one without, distributed by AT&T Inc., a US telephone company. This last feature, however, does not interest us here.
Let's go back to the IP68 certification of OnePlus 10 Pro. Apparently, the version not locked (therefore what we also find in Italy and Europe) it does not have IP68 certification. So far we are. However, the version of the smartphone provided by Verizon it is IP68 certified. You will say: but then the construction is different. Actually no, it is the same device with only one “software limitation”.
This leads us to think that in reality the IP68 certification is only one Bait and switch and that all devices, in this case OnePlus 10 Pro are certified. Difficult to think that it is the other way around, or that no one is: otherwise not even one of the versions would appear IP68.
