Good news from OPPO which has just received several awards at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR) 2020. The Chinese brand that has also conquered the rest of the world in recent years has proven to be a leader in innovation technology, in particular in the development of AI, in addition to presenting a new department of Perception and Intelligent Interaction, designed to explore artificial intelligence technologies within its Research Institute.
OPPO wins two first places in the category dedicated to AI at CVPR 2020
OPPO announces that the brand has been successful in three competitions, obtaining two first places and two third places in the CVPR 2020 Challenges. The technologies that have been awarded include that of "perceptual extreme super-resolution technology" (the one capable of making a photo blurred 16 times sharper in a natural way); the "visual location" (capable of identifying where the photo was taken by analyzing the image) and the recognition of human activity in the videos.
We are very proud to have achieved such remarkable results on behalf of OPPO in this year's CVPR tests, which reflect three of our main research areas, namely environmental perception, human-based computing and the generation of images / videos . This is the first public demonstration of the results of our research and development activities since the establishment of the OPPO Intelligent Perception and Interaction Research Department, which also fully represents the strength of the brand in the field of AI.
Eric Guo, Chief Researcher of OPPO's Intelligent Perception Department
Always Eric Guo also added:
It is known that the inventions of the mouse and the graphical user interface have contributed to the success of the personal computer, as the touch screen deserves a lot of credit for the rapid

success of smartphones. In fact, every time the man-machine interaction modality and the technology of intelligent perception evolve, they lead to a new technological trend. This is why we at OPPO are committed to making smart devices more intelligent, so that they are able to better understand users. We will therefore be able to develop a new method of human-machine interaction to guide the next wave of technological progress.
OPPO wins two first places in the category dedicated to AI at CVPR 2020
So let's take a look at these three challenges up close.
Extreme perceptual challenge of super-resolution
During this test, the OPPO Research team was tasked with solving the problem of extreme perceptual super-resolution per single image with a magnification factor of 16. The objective is to obtain a model capable of producing results at high resolution with the best perceptual quality and resemblance to the basic truth. The team developed and demonstrated the effectiveness of its neural network called RFB-ERSGAN, beating 280 other participants with its smartest analysis, most efficient calculation and most diversified methods, eventually winning the first place among the Facebook teams , Baidu, Microsoft, Amazon and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The challenge of visual localization for portable devices
OPPO develops AI applications to analyze images from different sizes With a first place in the external visual localization (Aachen Day-Night) and a third place in the
visual localization for interiors (InLoc), OPPO has created a monocular visual localization pipeline that uses semantic and depth signals to find the precise position of any
reference image. Overcoming a major obstacle for many computer vision applications, which consists in identifying and eliminating a significant amount of incorrect results, this method has proven to be at the forefront thanks to solid experimentation.
Detection of human activity within extended videos
To respond to this challenge that encourages the design of automatic activity detection algorithms and therefore to win third place in the test for the detection of activities in extended videos, OPPO has developed its own algorithms to efficiently identify and rearrange the characters in each frame and thus recognize dozens of human activities within complex dynamic videos. In the future, this technology will play an important role in the field of human-machine interaction and sports video analysis.
What can we say, OPPO continues to surprise us with more and more international awards. In fact, a couple of weeks ago we also reported someentry of the brand into the OpenChain project as the first platinum member from China. What does the future have to offer? Keep following us to find out with us!
