Why have Xiaomi smartphones increased in price?

A question we've all been asking for some time is: why Xiaomi smartphones (Mi series to be precise) do they cost more than before? The question apparently could have only one answer: the company is no longer what it once was. In reality, however, this is not the case at all. Indeed, in a certain sense it is just like that! And it is precisely because it is no longer the same that the prices have risen. If this reasoning seems too convoluted to you and you are curious to know what's underneath, keep reading the article.

Let's try to understand why Xiaomi's smartphones have increased in price for some years now: there is nothing hidden, it is physiological

To understand why Xiaomi devices have increased their price, we must start from the creation of the company. The brand, founded in 2001, started off as the producer he wanted offer excellent products at low costs, but also as a producer without personality. It is no coincidence, in fact, that at the beginning the brand was called Chinese Apple. In practice, its smartphones were the same as those of the Cupertino counterpart. Let's remember for example Xiaomi Mi 8, a shameless copy of the iPhone X.

So, from its beginnings Xiaomi has proposed a smartphone copy of other devices. One less cost if we think about it: the company was able to do without building its own image and thus saved huge amounts of money. We know that research and development, even of design, costs a company a lot and this leads to an increase in costs. There however, the trend has changed since the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi 10. These two devices in particular, but perhaps more than the Mi 10, have seen prices soar compared to before. But for what reason?

In reality there is no single reason, but the price increase is due to a series of contributing causes. First of all the hardware. The processors have become more and more powerful and this means that Qualcomm makes them pay more, so far it doesn't rain. Despite the very good blood that runs between Xiaomi and the giant of processors, there is a limit to the "discounts" that the second can do to the first. But above all, the one that has influenced the most of all is precisely there creating your own personality.

Starting with the Mi 10 in particular, the company started a produce smartphones that are in a certain sense particular, no longer anonymous and casts of other devices. This is combined with a care in the materials: think of the screen of Mi 11 or even its audio sector curated by names of a certain level. In short, within two / three years Xiaomi has decided to invest in your image through smartphones. But this is a step that, if on the users side it is not really positive, on the company side it is mandatory.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, the latest flagship of the company

We come to today, May 4, which Xiaomi finally has introduced in Italy the Mi 11 Ultra. A smartphone that costs well 1500 € (full price and not introductory). We already knew that the figure could be this in reality: days before the launch it was leaked that the early-bird price wandered around the 1200 €, so it could be expected that after this launch period the cost would increase. But yet, the comments about the € 1500 of Mi 11 Ultra are not many. For what reason?

Simply because Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has personality, it is a unique smartphone of its kind and is equipped with features that no one can offer at the moment. As anticipated, in fact, we must not count only the "personality factor", it would not be right. It should be remembered that even the hardware equipment has its own cost which, little by little, is always increasing. Go for the chip crisis which is leading smartphones to increase in price more and more, but the exclusivity of a level hardware equipment must be paid for.

In conclusion, what Xiaomi charges today is a series of elements: the name that over time has been made, the components of high level and the personality of its devices which has become more and more marked from year to year. After all, it is not true that Xiaomi no longer offers smartphones with an affordable price: just change the name (but not the substance) and point to Redmi devices or POCO which offer the same quality but at a lower price.
