Problems with the launcher in the latest MIUI update: here's how to solve

As usual, mini updates to the system continue to arrive via OTA. We don't talk about big and heavy upgrades like what awaits us with the MIUI 12, but small upgrades of system applications. Most of the time these updates are harmless and very often they are only resolutions of small bugs, but sometimes it happens that the nice messes. In the last few hours, the MIUI system launcher update is causing many problems for users. Let's see in detail what is going on.

System launcher crash on MIUI for different Redmi and Xiaomi devices: here's how to solve it

The build number of the update dating back to today is 4.17.0.1870-05091136 and brings some small news in addition to the usual optimizations. So far no problem except that on different devices this update leads to systematic crash of the launcher itself. Therefore we strongly advise you not to proceed with the update and to wait for the release of a fix. At the moment the development team didn't comment about the problem but it's a matter of hours before I do

For now, the Xiaomi and Redmi devices updated to MIUI 11 that have encountered problems are:

• Redmi 5 Plus;
• Xiaomi Mi 10;
• Xiaomi Mi 9T;
• Xiaomi Mi Mix 3;
• Xiaomi Mi Note 10;
• Redmi Notes 4;
• Redmi Notes 4X.

Those who are not experiencing MIUI launcher crashes are not exactly "out of danger": there are slowdowns in the animations when applications open and close. If you are among those who have updated the device unaware, do not panic: there is an easy way to solve. Just do as follows:

• swipe the curtain, or the notification bar, down and click on the gear at the top right (alternatively just go to "Settings" if possible); [for those who know less, you have to go down with your finger from the highest part of the screen up to half o poco more of the same; however, we put a mini video guide at the end]
• now go to "App”You will find poco under "Password and security";
• now tap on "Manage apps"And search for"System launcher";
• once found click on and down select "Uninstall updates".

With this simple trick, you will no longer find yourself crashing with the MIUI launcher. While waiting for an update to fix the problem, don't update it.

Some of you surely have automatic updates with WiFi on, which is an option that makes your smartphone update system apps automatically. To avoid problems like the one just described, we advise you to disable them, at least for the moment. Then go to "Settings"> "System app updates"> click on the gear at the top> "Automatic updates"> "Do not update".

• regardless if you have physical keys, gestures or digital keys, access multitasking (usually with digital keys it is the key to the right or left);
