Realme just announced that the upcoming Realme 8 Pro will debut with a 108MP camera. The sensor in question is Samsung's ISOCELL HM2 with 9 to 1 pixel binning technology and up to 3x lossless zoom.
Realme 8 Pro: will have a 108MP camera with professional features
The ISOCELL HM2 is a 1 / 1,52 ”sensor with a pixel size of 0,7 μm and Super-PD autofocus. It can take photos with a resolution of up to 12000 × 9000 pixels and record videos up to 4K at 120 fps.
Realme has also developed several custom optimizations for the sensor that will be featured on the upcoming Realme 8 Pro.
For example, the 3x lossless zoom helps preserve detail and color without increasing sharpness digitally, this is done by taking 12MP photos and mapping the zoomed area. Image processing is optimized to achieve eight consecutive 12MP shots which are then enhanced with the help of an algorithm to increase clarity. Realme claims that this process is superior to that of some modules in terms of sharpness.
Additionally, the 108MP sensor features a new Starry mode for astrophotography time-lapse videos. Traditionally these forms of video are made by recording multiple clips with professional cameras which are then edited on a computer. While Realme created its own time-lapse video algorithm to take 30 photos in 480 seconds (8 minutes) which results in a 1 second time-lapse video.
