Released Source Codes for Xiaomi Mi 6: Begin Developing the First Custom ROMs?

Perhaps not everyone knows that the release of source codes, the development codes underlying the firmware and ROMs of a device, inevitably corresponds to a starting point for the development of alternative ROMs. The reason for this brief start-up, as you have seen in the title, is soon to be said: from today developers and fans can start exploiting the source codes of Xiaomi Mi 6 to develop custom ROMs!

So good news for those who hoped to have fun and try to find an alternative ROM to the MIUI 9: install the Resurrection Remix, AOSP Extended or the Mokee - just to name a few - it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Obviously now we will talk about official porting, made by the official teams involved in the realization of the aforementioned ROMs.

But it did not end here. The experts will know it already but it is good to clarify: many fans and users a bit 'more geeks now can stock up Kernel codes to make ROMs that take the best ROM, customizing them to your liking. For ordinary mortal users, therefore, we have only to wait patiently for the development and release of these ROM alternatives.

Excellent news, but what's new?

With this paragraph, I promise you will be short, I want to leave you one food for thought. The news of the release of the springs happens less than 6 months since launching Xiaomi Mi 6.
The company with head Lei Jun he had become accustomed to not being so inclined to the rapid diffusion of the "foundations" of his devices: just think for Mi 5 they wanted us about 8 months (from February to the end of September) and that for Mi 5S it was necessary to wait until May of this year (since September 2016, well 9 months!).

What do I mean by that? Well, my assumptions are actually two and I'll write to you briefly, hoping that some of you can comment on it constructively.

1

Xiaomi Mi 6 needed less time for proper development?

The idea is that Xiaomi worked for a long time on Mi 6 and that launching Mi 5S was just an attempt to put some clutter to some recurring problems on Mi 5. What I want to say - but it is my opinion - is that perhaps the company may have launched I 5S, as a hybrid between Mi 5 and Mi 6, anticipating the launch of Xiaomi Mi 6 for a few months to deal with some issues that afflicted Mi 5. In this respect, it is development of Mi 6 it would take less time, yes, but only because in part already developed before of the sudden launch of Mi 5S.

In addition, this Xiaomi Mi 6 is strongly detached from both Mi 5 and Mi 5S and the optimization is seen!

2

Xiaomi is trying to become a "developer-friendly" brand?

The more "older" - I do not want them -, those who know and have had to deal with the brand for quite some time will surely remember it. Few years ago Xiaomi it was almost one brand for small bags, a brand that partially anticipated OnePlus with its own opening to the world of development mobile. For about ten months to this part, however, Xiaomi had given the impression that he wanted to close the door to "alternative" development: in this regard, we recall the introduction of the blocking the bootloader, the introduction of the infinite wheel to unlock the bootloader, incompatibility with some flash tools and ultimately the block of EDL software mode a bootloader blocked.

All this to say what? Probably the choice should be re-evaluated considering also the partnership with Google. The launch of Xiaomi Mi A1, with Android One software, could explain this choice of Xiaomi to return to the origins anticipating the release of source codes to return to be a brand closer to the users of software development.

But, could. It's just my opinion.

I leave you in the meantime the link to the source code page for Xiaomi Mi 6. Let us know what you think!

Good Xiaomi, I congratulate the seriousness of the manufacturer since it has released an incomplete kernel violating the GPLV2 license that requires the manufacturer to release an updated, complete and functional kernel source. #xiaomishitasalways

Too bad that for the Redmi note 3 pro it has not released the source update, still stuck at lollipop and without goodix hardware. So people like me who have goodix have to wait and hope that the developers solve it. I keep hoping for a release.
I also hope they release the sources of the Redmi 4A that I have from poco ordered at 75 € thanks to you.

You are not very smart if you buy Xiaomi, keep in mind that open source has a cost and for € 75 you know what you take home. I don't want to talk about MIUI because at the software level it is obscene but oh well, if the trend is that among the android "experts" we are in good shape
