Samsung introduces the payment card fingerprint scanner

Touchless or contactless payments are nothing new. There are those (like me) who use a credit card and use the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 NFC; there are those who use a simple payment card using technology NFC. And then there are those who will use the new system introduced by Samsung, which provides for the adoption of the fingerprint scanner on a payment card. A nice idea no doubt, but one that could be pretty useless when using faster (and cheaper) methods.

Credit card or debit card, Samsung introduces the fingerprint scanner on payment cards. Here's how they work in detail

Samsung has introduced what it calls a security chip multifunctional fingerprint scanner for biometric payment cards. Simply put, this is a chip to implement a fingerprint scanner on regular bank cards (and more). The chip is called S3B512C. It is certified EMVCo e Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ and operates in accordance with the latest specifications BEPS extension (Biometric Evaluation Plan Summary) by Mastercard.

The company itself states:

The S3B512C combines a fingerprint sensor, Secure Element (SE) and Secure Processor, adding an extra layer of authentication and security to payment cards. S3B512C is primarily intended for payment cards, but can also be used in cards that require highly secure authentication such as student or employee identification, membership or building access

Samsung claims to be the first company to create all-in-one security chip of the industry that reads biometric information with a fingerprint sensor, stores and authenticates encrypted data with a tamper-proof Secure Element and analyzes and processes data with a secure processor. With three key functions integrated into a single chip, the S3B512C can help card makers a reduce the number of chips and to simplify card development processes for biometric payment cards.
