Foldable smartphones: LG has solved their biggest problem

- foldable smartphones are on the rise and unlike what many expected, this new type of device could work. However, it is no secret that the biggest problem of these is the fold. An oxymoron if you like, since they are called folding. But there is a glimmer of hope and it is LG, or rather, carrying it LG Chem, the part of a Korean company that deals with the chemical sector. Let's see how the company seems to have solved the crease problem on foldable smartphones.

LG, through its company LG Chem, has finally solved the biggest problem of folding smartphones: that of the fold. that's how

As anticipated, folding smartphones have a single problem, namely that of being fragile due to the crease. LG Chem, a chemical company of the LG group, has developed a new material to build smartphone displays and that would eliminate (almost forever) the very problem of wear.

Real Folding Window is the name of the new material produced by LC Chem. It is a combination of materials that makes the glass itself very resistant in the rigid parts but very elastic in the part intended for bending. The material consists of a "trivial" polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic film which guarantees, according to the company, an average of 200.000 folds. A number that doesn't actually sound very high when we consider that Xiaomi MIX Fold has far surpassed them.

There is, however, an almost unique feature of this LG screen. While most smartphones are designed to fold inward, this one Real Folding Window è designed to resist outward creasing. Since the experiment for LG was successful, the company is projecting itself towards the new goal: to eliminate the film / film to make the glass even thinner.

The company plans to acquire mass production capacity by 2022 and start full-scale sales of the product starting in 2023.
