During the'IFA 2023 in Berlin, Sony unveiled its latest model, theXperia 5V. This new smartphone marks a decisive turning point in design, a surprising move for the Japanese brand which for years has maintained a conservative profile in terms of aesthetics, while maintaining its guidelines on compactness and lightness. Xperia 5 V: data sheet
The Xperia 5 V, although it took inspiration from its predecessors, has undergone a complete transformation in design. It has dimensions of 154 x 68 x 8,6 mm and weighs 186 g, and is made with a combination of aluminum and durable Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
From the front, it boasts a 21-inch 9:6,1 OLED display with FHD + resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone also has a IP65 / IP68 certification, ensuring resistance to water and dust.
Inside, the Xperia 5V is powered by the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2, supported by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. His battery from 5000mAh it supports both 30W fast and wireless charging.
As for photography, it only features two rear cameras, unlike the usual trio. The main camera has a resolution of 54MP (although it actually uses 48MP and shoots at 12MP through pixel binning) with a 24mm lens and a second 12MP (16mm) wide-angle lens. Sony has introduced a third 48mm virtual zoom (i.e. 2x zoom) derived from the 48MP main sensor.
Although, according to Sony, the results surpass a traditional telephoto lens, it is not comparable to a true 48mm lens and may disappoint more experienced photographers. However, the Xperia 5 V offers tools such as the “Creative Look” function, which provides color presets to give an artistic touch to photos, eliminating the need for post-production.
Another notable feature is the advanced bokeh mode. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the bokeh effect of the Xperia 5 V achieves an impressive degree of precision, approaching the quality of cameras with interchangeable lenses. Furthermore, the model stands out for its “Video Creator” app which allows for easy video editing, making the creation of visual content simple.
Both cameras offer rvideo recording in 4K at 120fps, with the 12MP front camera. The device also offers the usual manual modes that Sony enthusiasts are familiar with.
Release, availability and price
The Xperia 5 V launches with Android 13, the latest operating system from Google, at a cost of 999 €. As we said, the device in question was released today, but the details on availability in Italy are still pending.
