Xiaomi patents a new folding clamshell smartphone similar to the Galaxy Z Flip

Xiaomi has filed a new patent: it seems that the Chinese house is working on one folding smartphone with a folding mechanism that winks at that of the Samsung Galazy Z Flip, but also of the Moto Razr 5G. Let's find out more details.

Here is the folding smartphone patented by Xiaomi

The Chinese house has filed the patent with WIPO, or the Word Intellectual Property Organization. To find out was the 91mobiles portal which in the images below shows a device that folds in the center in a similar way to a clamshell smartphone. The unique feature of this device is the horizontal module on the back that houses two large camera sensors.

Looking at the images, you may also notice a square cutout inserted next to the photo sensors. The latter could be a small secondary display, useful for displaying the notification icons or the time at their best. But it could also be the camera's viewfinder.

The device can be folded in half, just like a laptop. Multitasking should be significantly improved. There is the volume rocker and the power button inserted on the right side frame. At the bottom, here is the speaker grille, the USB Type-C port and the compartment for the SIM. There is no 3,5mm audio jack.

At the front, there is a pill-shaped cutout where they are set two selfie snapper, or a selfie camera and an LED flash. The images show us a device with a slim design: this suggests that there will be a significant reduction in battery capacity.

Anyway, we are always talking about a design patent. We do not know anything about the technical specifications of the device, and we have no certainty as to whether it really comes out. Will Xiaomi really launch a smartphone of this type? We'll see. If that happens, it will attack the premium mid-range with it.
