Xiaomi Comet and Sirius: Snapdragon 670 or 710? Let's clarify!

Poco less than a week ago, the leaker and developer of XDA - Developers Mishaal Rahman informed us of the existence of two new Xiaomi smartphones, codenames Comet e Sirius, for which the Chinese company has decided to adopt what until a few hours ago we knew as the successor of the SoC present on the excellent My Notes 3, or the Snapdragon 670.

The indiscretion reported by the Indian leaker was also corroborated by the words pronounced by the best-known Roland Quandt, who had also informed us about the architecture that the American chip maker has adopted for its new mid-high-end SoC.

However, in the light of what has transpired this morning, it seems that the Snapdragon 670 will never see the light, or at least it will not do it with the name by which we learned to know it.

The 670 Snapdragon changes its name to Snapdragon 710 but not the substance!

Foriero of this indiscretion is once again the aforementioned developer Mishaal Rahman, who in an article published on the well-known XDA portal informs us how he came into possession of the updated firmware of the Xiaomi Comet and Sirius. He informs us how in such files every reference to the chip Snapdragon 670 was replaced by those at the Snapdragon 710, causing it, at least at first, to think in a change of course by Xiaomi regarding the choice of SoC for its new devices.

Xiaomi Comet and Sirius: Snapdragon 670 or 710? Let's clarify!

Investigating more deeply in the matter, Rahman has ascertained how this change of references is instead due to Qualcomm itself, which seems to have decided to rename the Snap 670 by tweaking it into Snapdragon 710.

For this chip, therefore, are worth the same rumors leaked days ago for the Snap 670, or those that suggested the presence of eight cores divided into a cluster of two cores A75, the most powerful, and a second composed of four cores A55. This configuration seems to be corroborated by the information extrapolated from the above-mentioned firmwares.

Xiaomi Comet and Sirius: here are the technical specifications extrapolated from their firmware!

Now we come to the most interesting part of Rahman's work, namely the collection, again by means of firmware analysis, of the technical specifications of the Xiaomi Comet and Sirius. Here they are shown in the table below.

Unfortunately, Rahman and his collaborators have not been able to get more information on the cameras of the two smartphones and, this is right to say, they added that being these smartphones in testing is not to be excluded that only one of them can actually be entered in the market.

Is the Xiaomi Mi MAX 3 concealing behind Comet or Sirius?

As suggested by a further leak of the last hours, we could recognize in the Xiaomi Comet o Sirius what, presumably in the months of May / June, will be officially launched under the name of Xiaomi We are MAX 3. As reported by igeekphone.com in fact, the future Xiaomi padellone will be the first device of the company to equip it Snapdragon 710 and the first to show off an important feature like the recognition of the iris of our eyes.

There is really a lot of meat on the fire and the information, unfortunately, is very confusing. Certainly in the near future we will have more clarity, continue to follow us to stay updated on the issue.
