Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro more expensive than ever, but less than 5% real profit

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro launched on February 13 is a truly complete flagship from many points of view, such as performance, screen quality, battery, cameras and much more. But if we have to find the Achilles heel, this will almost probably be the price.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro more expensive than ever, real profit less than 5%

The Xiaomi Mi 10 base was in fact presented in China with a starting price of 3999 Yuan, about 510 euros, when instead the predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 9, was available in a basic version of 2999 Yuan, about 385 euros. While the Mi 10 Pro is even more expensive with the more "economic" variant that costs 4999 Yuan, or 640 euros at the current exchange rate.

So let's talk about a difference of 2000 Yuan (€ 250) between the Mi 9 base and the Mi 10 Pro, which certainly did not please many fans of the brand.

Having said that, as previously anticipated by the president, Xiaomi has decided to change course and dedicate itself to the production of smartphones with the best specifications currently available, without paying much attention to the final price of the device. On the other hand, for those who want to save money there will always be the Redmi sub-brand that brings a compromise between specifications and a truly exceptional price.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro

Returning to the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, a few days ago a news came out that showed us the production costs of the smartphone. The news said that the costs were quite high, in fact, we are talking about $ 440 only in components for the version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. This without taking into account all the other costs of production, listing etc.

Today, another study done in China by Founder Securities tells us that the previous count was relatively conservative. According to Founder Securities in fact, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has a BOM (Bill of Materials) of $ 490.

Now, $ 490 (€ 440) is significantly less than the 4999 Yuan (€ 640) of the sale price, but the Chinese organization seems to be sure that, adding all the other costs incurred by the brand to get the smartphone into the hands of the 'end user, Xiaomi's real profit is only 5%, if not less.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro DxOMark

So yes, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is the most expensive flagship ever released by Xiaomi but it is also true that producing one has become more expensive than ever. This is mainly due to the "fault" of the Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 865, which seems to have doubled in price compared to the previous series.

Now tell us yours. What do you think of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro? Is it good for Xiaomi to equip the best hardware while increasing prices? Let us know in the comments section below!
