Xiaomi Mijia Smart Cat Eye M1 and Light Sensor presented in China
Let's start with the new Xiaomi Mijia Smart Cat Eye M1, or the intelligent peephole that we had anticipated in this article. The device consists of an external camera with Full HD resolution and viewing angle of 150 degrees, and an internal display of 5 inches, IPS and with 854 × 480 resolution.
Alternatively, the live feed can always be viewed through the Mijia application or on the smart speakers with screens sold by the Chinese brand. The recorded videos remain saved in the cloud for at least three days (free service in China).
The Xiaomi Mijia Smart Cat Eye M1 is equipped with a PIR sensor able to understand the presence of a person, coupled with AI algorithms to identify the subject. This system also makes it possible to reduce false alarms when, for example, an animal passes or there is a change of light.
In any case, when the system confirms that it is indeed a person, an automatic registration is started followed by a notification sent on the smartphone. The same procedure also starts when the subject stands still for too long in front of the peephole or if he tries to tamper with the device.
To be able to see in the dark, the camera adopts an infrared night vision from 940nm. This technology allows to have excellent performances and at the same time emits few visible rays to the naked eye, so as not to attract attention.
Finally, as far as the autonomy is concerned, we have a built-in 5000mAh battery for a duration of about two and a half months in standard mode. In energy saving mode the autonomy instead goes to 7 and a half months, with the only feature missing in the reproduction of the live feed (the saved video recordings, notifications, night vision and recognition of people remain).
The Xiaomi Mijia Smart Cat Eye M1 is priced at 369 Yuan (47 €) during the crowdfunding campaign.
Let's move on to the Mijia Light Sensor, which as the English name suggests is nothing but an intelligent light sensor. The device, once connected to a Xiaomi gateway, will allow us to control different gadgets at home depending on the variation of the light. We can therefore set that at a given brightness value, a function is activated.
Xiaomi gives as an example the possibility of opening or closing the smart tent of Aqara automatically according to the external light. Or turn on your home lights automatically in the evening when the brightness drops below a certain threshold.
The Xiaomi Mijia Light Sensor is now on sale in China for only 49 yuan, poco more than six euros.
