Xiaomi will use this proximity sensor on upcoming smartphones

Many Xiaomi users have encountered problems with the proximity sensor of their devices. These, vital for preventing unwanted actions during calls, are at the center of discussions due to their peculiarities digital compared to traditional physical sensors. Xiaomi's choice to continue on this path, despite the controversies, marks an interesting direction for the future. There is indeed news.

Xiaomi and the proximity sensor: what awaits us for the future?

Proximity sensors are a key component to ensuring a smooth and seamless user experience. Xiaomi has recently renewed his trust in virtual proximity sensors developed by Elliptic Labs, signing a multi-year contract.

Elliptic Labs technology, in fact, allows you to automatically turn off the display e disable il touch screen when the device is brought closer to the ear, thus avoiding accidental activations that could interrupt a phone call. This improves the calling experience and also contributes significantly to battery conservation. In an era where device battery life is increasingly critical, solutions that optimize energy consumption are essential.

The collaboration between Xiaomi and Elliptic Labs has lasted for longer eight years and saw the creation of 57 devices. The adoption of virtual proximity sensors demonstrates Xiaomi's commitment to finding solutions that combine advanced technology and convenience, without neglecting the user experience. While this choice may not meet with everyone's approval, it represents a clear direction towards making smarter, greener, more user-focused devices.

It must be said that, however, despite some critical issues related to the precision of virtual sensors compared to physical ones, Xiaomi's approach seeks a balance between costs and performance. The transition to these sensors underlines a trend in the mobile sector towards resource optimization, focusing on software solutions capable of offering functionality comparable to hardware ones, but at a fraction of the cost.

How to solve the proximity sensor problem on Xiaomi

There are several methods, we list only two of them. The first consists of the download an application which goes to correct as much as possible the errors of the proximity sensor on Xiaomi. Is called Proximity Sensor Reset. This app sets values that shouldn't cause problems following the test performed. The procedure is simple and completely automatic (and in Italian).

The second method is to install the Xiaomi.eu ROM. We found no sensor-related issues when installing it, but nor do we have evidence that this applies to all models. In general, regardless of this problem, we always recommend using this ROM as it is more complete.
