With smartphones that in recent years have become increasingly “full screen”, hiding the front camera has remained the main technical difficulty. Also, although the under-screen camera technology is already on the market, it has serious problems in terms of the quality of the photos taken. So here comes Xiaomi with a new patent that should solve this problem.
Xiaomi patents a smartphone with a removable camera
But let's go and see the patent found on the site 91Mobiles and available on the database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), which shows us a removable rear camera design.
From the patent report we find that this has a variety of rear camera module designs, with magnetic link, receivers, wireless transmission and other components. All to make the camera removable at will.
These detachable camera modules can in fact be attached to the top of the smartphone via magnets to take selfies. This design allows us to have a true full screen experience once the module is removed, of course.
We also note that the patent image also shows us circular and oval shaped rear camera modules, which could mean that the detachable design will suit a variety of modules. If this is the case, this will greatly improve the ability to take pictures with the front camera.
In any case, it is still a patent and it is not known whether it can be mass-produced. Not to mention possible airtight problems for a smartphone with this design.
Additionally, Xiaomi had previously filed a similar patent for an electronic device and hidden camera. This pop-up camera could be used to take selfies or as a rear camera to take photos and videos. Unfortunately, no device with this technology has yet been presented.
